I have diverticulitis. I have been using Acacia fiber every night before bedtime for a year and have had very minimal flare ups, maybe one or two in a year. Before using the Acacia in the evening I would have a flare up every other month requiring medical attention.

Did not work for me!

Heather's products are great. Delivery was so fast. The peppermint capsules did not work for me. I have had IBS for years. Hoping for spasm relief. Back to the Dr.

Hi Richard - I am so sorry to hear this! The peppermint oil caps are really potent, and should work well to prevent painful spasms. If you're not prone to heartburn, you can likely tolerate the full dose of three capsules per day.

We even have a handful of customers who have no heartburn issues, who are really prone to sudden, severe IBS attacks of pain and cramps, who use the capsules two at a time.

You may want to try raising the dose on these, and doing three caps a day, every day, or even give the two caps at a time a shot (assuming you don't have heartburn issues).

If they just aren't working for you, please don't hesitate to return them at any time for a full refund.

Here are some tips for taking our Peppermint Oil Capsules:

1) Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux. HOWEVER! There are some people who have problems with the caps when they wait the full hour before they eat. If you previously took the cap on an empty stomach, and waited an hour before eating, and still had problems, you might be one of those people. In that case, try taking a cap on an empty stomach just 5-10 minutes before eating, and see if that works better for you.

2) The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3) Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they'll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4) You shouldn't take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

Hi George,

I'm sorry to hear that the peppermint capsules did not have their desired effect.

The capsules work best when taken on an empty stomach with as little water as possible to swallow it about an hour before eating, or 2 hours after eating. This way, the capsules can get all the way through the stomach before the coating dissolves, and the oil can coat the lining of your system. That should prevent abdominal cramping, spasms, bloating, and gas.

Please know that you can return the peppermint capsules at any time for a full refund.

The tea bags are huge, so I was surprised at the size. The flavor is good and results favorable.

I'm wondering if the bags are so large because they're intended for a pot of tea rather than a cup. I've used one bag for two or three cups but am hesitant to use one if I only need one cup of tea. I don't want to waste them.

Heather's Tummy Fiber works very well for me. The constipation/diarrhea problem is gone, and the painful gut cramps as well. I bought some for my brother, and forwarded the information about diarrhea after having the gall bladder removed, since he has had his gall bladder removed, and now is having this problem. I can see that Heather wants to help us with high quality products, so I come back here even though there are cheaper acacia powders out there. It's not worth the risk of pain to even try them. Some say a happy wife means a happy life, well I can say from first hand experience that a happy gut means a happy life, too.

Product works O.K. but does not dissovle well

I used the travel "sticks" recently and found the product did not dissovlve nearly as well as the product in the large container. Got jelly like splotches of product several times when disolving the packet in water.

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The fiber in the stick packs is the exact same fiber we use in our larger containers.

Here is a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

A new staple in my house!
I've been drinking this delicious tea for at least 6 months now. I do sometimes alternate between the peppermint and other herbal teas, but I find myself drinking the peppermint tea most often. I use a French press so I can make a strong batch up daily, and I generally drink it iced with a little sugar. Most of the recipes I cannot use

I have to be very careful of the sugar in my diet and the carbs. So eating most of these recipes is out of the question. However I would like to say that the Acacia Tummy Fiber I bought at my local health store has had remarkable results with my gut and its problems.

Sometimes the best way for the teas to be effective for the pain and cramping is to "overwhelm" your gut with it for the first few days. Drink the teas till you are just sick of them for a good 2-3 days. This can help stop the pain and cramping so you can get on top of it, and then you can drop down to drinking the tea as needed.

If you do decide that they are just not working for your mom, you can certainly return the products for a refund.

Hello Darla,

I am so sorry your mom is not satisfied with the product.

The cardinal rule with Acacia is to start at a low dose (for Acacia, just 1/2 a level measuring teaspoon, twice daily), and increase gradually. It can take several weeks to slowly work your way up to your daily resolving dose.

Acacia is not a laxative, and it will not give "overnight relief", so taking a low dose for a few days or even a few weeks will not alleviate your symptoms. What it will do is begin to acclimate your gut to a higher daily dose of fiber, and this is the goal. It may be that your mom still needs to keep increasing in order to see the results she is looking for.

Generally those with the diarrhea side of IBS will resolve between 1 and 3 Tablespoons a day. Those with constipation need more fiber for relief and may need 3-5 Tablespoons a day. My guess is since your mom alternates between the two, she may need to reach a daily dose between 2 and 4 Tablespoons a day.

If she is still not satisfied, she is welcome to send back the Tummy Fiber for a refund.

I am so sorry you do not like that the Tummy Fiber is tasteless. It is meant to be that way so you can add it to plain water, or flavored liquids, and not even know it is there.

You may want to try mixing it into moist foods such as oatmeal, soups, cereals, adding it to smoothies or sprinkling it onto sandwiches or other foods.

If you would like to continue taking it with flavored water, make sure the flavored water does not have any artificial sweeteners or carbonation. Sometimes the flavored waters do have those and can actually trigger IBS symptoms.

I also see that you were not completely satisfied with our Customer Service or Speed of Delivery. I am so sorry about that! Both are very important to us. We aim to get all orders out the next business day after they are placed and use Priority Mail for the fastest and least expensive shipping methods we know.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve our Customer Service and Speed of Delivery on orders we would gladly accept them.

These are the greatest - I take one with small sip of water while still in bed (mornings) then listen to CD's for IBS - improvement has been slow - but now so much better, IBS is a cruel health issue, Dr's just don't have all information on problem, my nurse practioner helped me also by telling me to try fiber capsules, helped immediately, I have to take a least 12 a day, but to get relief I would try anything to get rid of stabbing pain in mornings in lower tummy.

More than just IBS
Like many people who have IBS, I have gone through the gauntlet of medical tests, months of abdominal pain, headaches and other issues linked to IBS. No difference.
I really do not see any noticeable difference and I'm almost to the bottom of the canister. Adding it to food wasn't appealing and mixing it with water wasn't much better. It never fully dissolves no matter how long it sits or I stir it. I do not have the typical constipation or diarrhea, but gas, bloating, pain and food intolerance. For these symptoms it did not help at all. I ordered the pouch at the same time and really don't want to use it. I'm sorry I ordered both at the same time.

Hi June - thank you so much for your feedback! Sometimes for gas and bloating it really helps to "overwhelm" your gut with the Fennel Tummy Tea at first. Because it aids in gas expulsion, for the first few days it can seem as if you have more gas because your body is simply eliminating more of it. This will settle down quickly.

I tell people to try and drink the fennel tea all day long, as much as you can, until you are just sick of it. Do this just for the first 2-3 days or so, and then you can drop back to a reasonable amount and keep the gas and bloating under control. Hope this helps a bit!

I have IBS amongst many other ills, and I am gassy. I cannot hold it in. Once in PE class I was passing gas with every sit up. Hi Michelle - thank you so much for your kind comments! You can use the Tummy Fiber and the peppermint oil caps together. The pep caps are best for preventing pain and spasms, the fiber is best for resolving diarrhea and/or constipation.

You do want to take the caps on an empty stomach, so not right with the fiber. The fiber you can just add right into moist foods at meal times, or have in liquids. You do have to start with a low dose of Tummy Fiber and increase gradually, and you need to use it daily (really, it should be taken twice daily for best results, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber).

The pep caps are much more a take-as-needed treatment. You can take them every day, or just on days when things aren't going well. They are different from the fiber in that regard, as the fiber really needs continuous use, and you have to gradually get your fiber dose up to the level that works for you.

The info in the books is compatible with the caps and the fiber, so definitely add that in without worry!

I would like to say...I am so happy. The peppermint oil pills seem to be working and since I have started taking them I have had no spasms. My gut feels more relaxed. I normally use loose tea every morning but when I travel it's nice to have the bags. I have made my own tea bags, but they seem to fall apart with use. Acacia has changed my life.

Hi Barbara - caffeine is a GI stimulant, so a potential IBS trigger, so be careful. Having said that people do have different tolerance levels for it. The safest way to get caffeine is probably green or black tea. If you're prone to heartburn use green tea, which is lower in acid. Definitely avoid coffee, even decaf, as it's a huge GI trigger. These teas have made such a huge difference. I love the peppermint! Fennel is definitely an acquired taste...but, works with a little bit of raw sugar. Drink at least 3 cups a day. Hi Michel - you are right, the Tummy Fiber dissolves best in room temperature water, not liquids that are boiling hot or ice cold. But, you can liquefy the fiber in just enough water to get it dissolved, and once it's liquefied you can add it to boiling or iced liquids and it will be fine.

The other fibers on the market that dissolve instantly across all temperatures are very highly processed, and are typically refined by-products of other food manufacturing processes (like dextrin from wheat or corn). They are not whole foods fibers like the acacia. The acacia senegal is literally the entire gum acacia produced by the tree (a little like syrup from maple trees) and it is not highly refined or extracted into multiple elements. This makes it a much higher quality, and we think a much better, soluble fiber supplement choice.

You can also just sprinkle the fiber on any moist food and not bother with adding it to liquids if you wish.

Fiber works.
The acacia Tummy Fiber works to help me manage IBS. It is a little difficult to dissolve. I prefer dissolving in pudding or applesauce and stirring briskly with a fork. No taste, no odor and only a few lumps. I take 2 heaping teaspoons 2 x day.

So far not receiving the results I would like to.

In a perfect world I would love to have one bowl movement a day. I go way to much a little at a time. It has help some of my tummy Pains. I have been taking one packet in the AM and one at night. You may have a different recommendation ?

Hello Linda,

I am so sorry you are not yet experiencing the relief you desire.

It sounds like you need to increase the amount of Tummy Fiber you are taking daily. Typically those with IBS-D need to take 1-3 Tablespoons a day to resolve diarrhea.

Each Tummy Fiber Travel Packet contains about 1 teaspoon of Tummy Fiber. These are great for convenience and to try the Tummy Fiber, but I would recommend ordering the Tummy Fiber Canister so you have enough fiber to notice more results.

Remember to gradually increase your total daily dose of Tummy Fiber by 1/2 teaspoon every 4-5 days until you find relief. Once you feel resolved you can stick with that daily dose from there on out.

Your product seems to be working great for me except for a little heartburn at times.

I am happy with your product, but I do have another concern. I do not normally order online and one week after I ordered online from you someone, somehow hacked in to my debit card (which I used) and I ended up with six fraudulent charges on my account. Therefore I will not be ordering from you online again. The bank cancelled that card.

Hi Kathryn - I'm so sorry to hear this. People tend to either love or hate the black licorice taste of fennel. It really does work well for gas and bloating though so many people just get creative about how to take it. You can brew it with another herbal tea such as peppermint or chamomile to disguise the flavor (peppermint in particular completely kills the fennel taste).

Using honey as a sweetener really makes it taste better as well. And some folks simply brew it very strong, let it cool, and drink it quickly as they would a medicine.

If you still just hate it so much you can't even drink it, please feel feel to return it for a full refund.

I've come to depend on my acacia fiber!
