Techni Ice Hot/Cold Packs are a tremendously effective muscle relaxant, and can be wonderfully beneficial for most IBS symptoms. When your gastrocolic reflex has triggered colon spasms, and pain, diarrhea, or constipation have resulted, the intense heat of
Techni Ice Hot Packs can relax the colon and offer quick relief. In addition, they can provide unparalleled relaxation and thus help
prevent stress-related attacks in the first place, not just alleviate the cramps and bowel dysfunction once they've already begun.
Techni Ice is a non-toxic, certified food safe product, with two inner layers which comprise a high strength spun bonded synthetic fibre non-woven fabric, which incorporates a high degree of strength and abuse resistance.
Techni Ice Hot/Cold Packs start as flat, almost weightless sheets filled with a non-toxic super-absorbent polymer powder that absorbs water through a special perforation technology in the surface of the product.
To use for the first time, scrunch the sheets between your hands for a minute or so while they're completely submerged in warm water (use a very large bowl or a sink), until the air bubbles have escaped. Then simply leave the sheets submerged in the water overnight. It's helpful to weigh down the sheets with a bowl so they stay completely under water. The cells will swell (the hot pack will look like a thick quilt) and be ready for repeated use. Re-hydration is occasionally necessary after repeated use, but it will only take about 30-60 minutes to re-hydrate a pack.
For use as a hot pack, simply microwave the hydrated pack for 1-3 minutes or until it's as hot as you'd like. The pack must be fully hydrated before you heat it. Use pack over or under clothes, or wrapped in a towel or blanket.
Please note that the very first 2-3 times you heat the packs after they've been hydrated, there may be excess water that seeps from the packs. This can be prevented by simply microwaving the newly hydrated packs until hot, pressing them with a towel to absorb excess water, then letting them cool and repeating this process once or twice. After that there should be no excess water in the packs, and there will be no leakage at all.
For use as a cold or ice pack, Techni Ice is unparalleled. It can be used as a flexible ice pack for injuries. It can be frozen right down to minus 190C (more than twice as cold as dry ice). When frozen in domestic household freezers, Techni Ice packs can often double the freezer temperature. Techni Ice can keep food and drinks icy cold for days on end in a cooler, and is also very effective at reducing battery consumption when placed in 12 volt fridge/freezers. The packs are perfect for picnics, camping, boating, or fishing. Techni Ice is used by commercial transport companies to maintain perishable goods, and by medical, hospital, dental, veterinary, and sports facilities around the globe.
Techni Ice packs can be used hot, cold or frozen. The packs are completely washable, re-useable, and will last for years. They can be cut to any size, and stored at room temperature or (if using as cold packs) in the freezer. If you'll primarily be using the packs for heat therapy, do not store in the refrigerator or freezer, but at room temperature.
Packs should not go directly from the freezer to the microwave, but should warm to room temperature first. Packs can be stored anywhere you'd keep a hot water bottle or heating pad - they do not require any special storage care.

Hi Judy - I'm so sorry to hear this. Each hot pack should measure 9 x 13 inches, so you can wrap it around your abdomen or lower back.
They will stay cold for hours or even days but this depends on how cold you freeze them. They will freeze down twice as cold as dry ice, so let them freeze till completely hard. If you insulate them once they're out at room temperature (wrap in a blanket, use in a styrofoam cooler, etc.) they will stay very cold for a very long period of time.
They should not leak - I am so sorry to hear that. If the packs seemed wet when you first used them, that may be from the initial hydration - there may be excess water that seeps from the packs. This can be prevented by simply microwaving the newly hydrated packs until hot, pressing them with a towel to absorb excess water, then letting them cool and repeating this process once or twice. After that there should be no excess water in the packs, and there will be no leakage at all. You can freeze or heat them as you wish.
If there is actual damage to the packs, or they continue to leak, please do let us know and we will replace them.
My apologies, Heather
