| I read page 3 and found my solution. I have been to several specialists and doctors over the last 40 years or more and each one knew I had had my gallbladder removed. | Dear Heather & Staff - I have recentally purchased your two books "Eating for IBS" and "The First Year" IBS book. First they came very, very quickly. I've read "Eating for IBS" first and flagged the pages of recipes I liked and plan on trying. I feel like the book was written for me. I've started reading the other book today. I'm only part way thru it, but I had to stop and take time to email you. I've always had stomach issues - was told I was lactose intolerant as a young child. Then when I was 15 years old I began seeing a GI doctor and then after nearly 8 months they decided it was my gallbladder. I had that removed in 2003. I still had problems after that and went to see a pediatric GI doctor who said I had a senstive stomach, gave me a perscription for Elavil and send me on my way. I've dealt with being ill off and on for the last 7 years. Within the last 6 months I started getting sicker with everything I ate. I went to a new doctor and had every test known to man, and every test listed in your book, and everything was fine. But I am not fine. I was diagnosised with IBS but the doctor didn't have any information to offer me. I was also diagnosised with GERD. Anyways, I am seriously overhauling my diet as right now I eat a lot of fried foods, saucey foods, eat out a lot, and lots of processed foods. I'm trying to switch to more natural, non-processed, and organic foods. I even make my own bread one a week. (Which my boyfriend prefers much more than store bought bread!) I have ordered other books on homeopahtic medicines and aromatherapy books. I'm going to try yoga and meditation as I am also on an antidepressant and have anxiety. (See why I think you wrote these two books for me?!) I plan on finishing this book and really working hard at this. I want to feel better and feel like myself again. I've missed a lot of work due to diarrhea, constipation, and pain because of attacks. And it is extremely hard to explain to people that I work with because they don't understand what is wrong. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for writing these books. You have no idea how much I appreciate them, your website, and everything you have to offer. To gain knowledge is a wonderful thing, but to share it is the best gift you can ever give to others. I recently went through 4 months of the worst IBS/Colitis episodes I have ever had. When I discovered your website and purchased your books I started to learn how to deal with my IBS/Colitis better by changing the way I eat. I have been to several doctors and they just didn't know what to do to help me. I felt like I was a guinea pig, as most treatments and medications didn't work on me. I was recently prescribed Zelnorm, and I ended up with the most severe ischemic colitis attack I have ever had - it lasted a day and a half. Needless to say I threw the Zelnorm away. | It has changed my life drastically as I was almost homebound because of attacks I had quite frequently from diverticulitis. It took at least 7 months for digestion changes to take place and get things calmed down, but I no longer am afraid of eating the foods I know are safe and have eliminated the foods you have suggested. | I developed IBS suddenly in the last 8 months of graduate school at age 52. After seeing three doctors and eating all the wrong foods, I found your book on the Internet. As I followed the principles and altered my diet, I was able to manage the symptoms and begin living a nearly normal life. I stilll have daily IBS symptoms but your guidelines helped me feel more normal, complete graduate school and deal with the stress without much pain. | I fired my regular doctors, all the pills they would give me made me worse. It is sad to say, because I am a nurse and work in the medical field, how bad Western medicine treats this issue. I have met so many people who have been diagnosed with this and are unaware of the help that is out there. People who know me told other people at work this isn't the real Tawny. After firing my doctors and getting off their medication and following your program and acupuncture finally this week a co-worker said, "Now, that is the 'real Tawny', she is back!" Not at 100% but on my way! I just wish everyone who suffers from this would find out there is help. But you have to find it yourself, doctors have no idea how to help. When I would bring up your book they would just blow me off! I see them in the hospital once in awhile, nursing pays my bills but I encourage patients to learn about whatever illness they have. The more educated one is about their illness the better they are. People need advocates, especially when they are ill and they don't have the energy to go look for it. Thank God for the internet, because while I was at home ill I spent time researching this and found you! Sorry to go on for so long, reading your story and learning this new way I wish I had learned 25 years ago when I was first diagnosed with it. Instead my life has been a fog, and somehow I have managed to survive. I am hoping my children will see how much diet affects one's life and how important the whole person (mind, body and spirit) affect your health. I just can't thank you enough!
