Hi Mary - I am so sorry you are struggling. Did you start at ½ teaspoon twice daily? You want to stay there for 3-4 days, and then add an extra ½ tsp to just one of your doses. Wait 3-4 days and then increase your other dose by an extra ½ tsp. Follow that process, go slow and steady, and as you gradually get your fiber dose up it should resolve the frequent BMs. If you go too quickly that can cause gas, so that means drop your dose and go more gradually with increases. Slow and steady will win this race. Please keep us posted.

This is helped my symptons tremendously and very quickly. I would like more eggless recipes however, since I am allergice to every part of an egg.

Hi Patricia! You can substitute for the egg in most of the baking recipes - for the quick breads you could probably just eliminate them, for others try subbing in Ener-G Egg Replacer. You can get this at any grocery store, it's vegan and IBS safe, and works well. For dishes where eggs are the main part (scrambles and such) you could sub silken tofu, mashed with a fork. If there are specific recipes you're struggling with just let me know.

I love the product; it works well for me. I do not like the difficulty in dissolving it.
It takes too long to dissolve, and is difficult to get out all the lumps. However, I like the results. Am now on 3 Tbs per day. Would like it in capsule form, if available.

info very helpful; recipes not so much.

I am an older widow living on SS and too many ingredients I would have to drive too far to get. Cooking for one is a challenge. It was obvious you live in a large metropolitan area where it is easy to find things. The information part of the book was very helpful and I am picking up tips from recipes but not too many. And way too many carbs in the desserts for anyone who has to watch weight/sugar intake.

Hi Kathleen - thanks so much for your feedback! Please don't feel restricted by ingredients - you can omit or substitute for things you can't obtain. I actually wrote this book while living in rural New England, with ingredients I'd been able to easily find for years in other areas of the country as well. If there is something specific tripping you up, please let me know and I'll help. I tried to make the recipes as wide ranging and comprehensive as possible, but you can certainly stick to the traditional all-American options and familiar favorites if you wish. You can also halve just about all the recipes to make smaller meals.

Sugar is not a health food, but also not an IBS trigger, so the dessert recipes will use real sugar. It's best to just avoid sweets or stick to small portions if you are limiting sugar - don't replace that with artificial sweeteners, as those are huge GI triggers.

Hi Glenda - I'm so sorry you are having trouble. Please know that the Tummy Fiber cannot cause diarrhea (or constipation). It is just 100% soluble fiber, which is a bowel motility regulator. It does have to be used twice daily, and you have to start at a low dose and increase gradually. You continue to increase gradually until you reach the dose you need in your gut to keep motility stable. That may be several teaspoons to several tablespoons per day, total. But you can't start at the dose you'll end up needing to reach, you have to start low and increase gradually.

You may get or continue to have diarrhea until are able to get your fiber dose up to the level you need. It's not a drug, so it will not work overnight. You should see improvements as your dose increases, and then complete resolution of the diarrhea as you continue. Unfortunately, you can't rush the process.

Please let us know any other questions or if you continue to have problems.

The dessert recipes do use real sugar, as it's not an IBS trigger (though it's also not a health food, so you can simply omit desserts from your diet if you wish). There is little to no sugar in the non-sweet recipes, so please let me know if you have specific concerns/recipes you are asking and I'll try to help. In general, aside from baking (where sugar plays a critical role in the food chemistry) you could certainly just lower the sugar amount or omit it if you wish.

Hello David - I'm so sorry to hear this. Please do make sure that were using the fiber twice daily, and that you started at a low dose of just 1/2 teaspoon twice daily but gradually increased that every few days. For diarrhea you may have to gradually work up to 1-3 Tablespoons per day total, but if you resolve at a lower dose then just stay there. If you gradually worked up your dosage but just saw no improvements at all, please check in with your GI doc as that could be a red flag for something other than IBS. If this is the case please return the fiber for a full refund, open or not, no time limits at all. If you have dosage questions please just let me know.

I am having great results with the powder at just 1/2 tsp. daily so far. I have IBS -C. i used the powder years ago but was on drugs for the IBS that caused more constipation. I believe it didn't help because I was on the drugs the doctor was giving to me for the IBS symptoms. I am going up slowly as I am a very hypersensitve person. I am also getting great results being treated the last four years with Homeopathic remedies. I am going to school to become a homeopathic practitioner and plan to help others who have IBS. I was able to get off the pharmaceutical drugs because of homeopathic remedies. Will continue using the soluble fiber as it causes no bloating at all, I cannot use the peppermint as it will antidote homeopathic remedies in some people. Maria

Hi Marianne - the Tummy Fiber will resolve IBS diarrhea and/or constipation, but you have to gradually reach the dose your gut requires for that. The Tummy Fiber is a pure soluble fiber, so it is a bowel regulator, which means it regulates bowel contractions and water content. It cannot turn diarrhea to constipation or vice versa. You will need to gradually get your twice daily dose up to the level your bowel needs for stability. That will be a lower end for diarrhea, a higher end for constipation, and if you normally alternate between d and c your dose range will likely end up in the middle.

If you are prone to diarrhea and that has not resolved, that means you need to continue to gradually increase your dose until there is enough soluble fiber in your gut to normalize motility. When you reach that dose, stay there for maintenance.

Hi Cheryl - hang in there, it's not uncommon for constipation to take a gradual increase to the higher end of the dose range (3-5 tablespoons per day, total) to resolve. Go slow and steady, you should see improvements along the way, and just keep gradually increasing your dose until the constipation has resolved. That is the dose where you'd then stay. Omg it's a miracle
This product and the peppermint caps are healing my 17 year old daughter. It's a miracle. She has been in so much pain for so long with her IBS she has lost weight because she eats and it hurts so she stops. She was 91 pounds and now she is 81 pounds. Works great for me and taste great too!
I eat enough fiber at breakfast & lunch so I only use the tummy fiber at dinner. I seem to only need 1 heaping teaspoon and I let it dissolve about 1/2 hour before taking just before eating. I also eat some more food with fiber with dinner.

After reading The First Year, and Cure Constipation Now by Dr W Jones, I started Dr Jones's protocol using Citrucel and was very happy with my results. I wasn't happy with ingesting all that sugar so have switched over to acacia fiber without any adverse effects. I'm using 2 tsp 3 times per day and am very satisfied with my results. So far, so good!
So far this tummy fiber is working out well for me. I was using Metamucil, but found that it made me gassy, so I finally decided to try Heather's tummy fiber. I followed the directions and started slowly, increasing the amount I used every few days. I'm up to 1 teaspoon a day and I think that is what is going to work best for me. I've been using this product about 3 weeks now and it has made a huge difference in my life! I'm taking it slowly as wind in my colon has always been a problem. I started with the recommended dose and am now taking 1 tsp twice daily. My diarrhea has slowed from up to 6 times per day to 1 or 2 normal movements a day. Hi Sharon - thank you so much for your feedback. Eating for IBS is completely dairy free (dairy is a huge IBS trigger), but it is not gluten free. Most IBS folks do not have a gluten intolerance as well, so I wanted to make the book as broad as possible. It is certainly possible to eat safely for both IBS and celiac, so please do combine those needs.

I do not have a cookbook that is gluten free but there is a lot of information and some recipes on the site that fit the bill. I'm so sorry I don't have a perfect solution for this.

Lower doses won't worsen constipation, but they might not resolve it, either. The fiber literally has to be in your gut to stabilize motility.

Hi Doreen - thank you so much for your feedback. Please give the fiber at least a few weeks, as you need to start at a low dose and increase gradually. You may work your way up to a tablespoon or two per dayfor diarrhea, or all the way up to four or five tablespoons per day for constipation. But you can't rush this - you have to start with just 1/2 teaspoon twice daily, and increase gradually.

You should see improvements as you go along, and as that happens just keep gradually increasing your dose until you feel truly stable day to day. That's the dose where you would stay.

I am most pleased with the Tummy Fiber now that I have tried it.
About a year ago I tried the peppermint and it was just too strong so didn't try anything else. Attempted to get into a gastroenterologist who would only see me for procedures so decided to try the Tummy Fiber instead. Have lived with IBS for 45 years and, oh, how I wish I had ordered the Tummy Fiber the first time I knew about it. It has made a world of difference for me. Thank You Heather. Tummy Fiber has helped me most with lower abdominal pain and diarrhea issues. After it dissolves, my glass of water is clear and tasteless. In cooler weather I turn my fiber water into peppermint tea and in warmer weather I like to drink my fiber in plain cool water. To help dissolve in the winter when our water is much colder, I start to stir the fiber with warm not hot water and after the fiber starts to dissolve I start adding cool water. I found that stirring with a metal spoon breaks up the fiber a bit more and cuts down on foam. Since this is the first fiber I have ever taken I did started introducing it as a 1/4 teaspoon twice a day for a week then increased it from there. This has helped tremendously and I will definitely be back for more. I also have to say that delivery across the country is fast and I feel appreciated as a customer when I purchase. Keep up the great work!🌷

Hi Val - I am so sorry to hear this. The fiber should never cause discomfort. Did your son start with just 1/2 teaspoon twice daily, and then slowly but steadily increase? If he increased too quickly, that could cause gas and bloating because fiber is literally indigestible. Starting at a low dose, and gradually increasing, will prevent that.

If he is unable to use the fiber please do return for a full refund, there are no time limits and that is never a problem.

The prebiotic effect of the fiber creates an environment in the bowels of short chain fatty acids, in which healthy gut bacteria thrive. The healthy gut bacteria then keep the bad bacteria in check. I have IBSD and have tried everything from OTC meds to changing my diet. The only thing that has truly helped me has been this fiber product. It took some getting used to but the difference has been worth the wait. I ordered the small packets first and tried it out. Once I saw it helping me I ordered the large container. I sprinkle it in my juice each morning and in my tea at dinner. No more waking up at 3 a.m. having to run to the restroom. I never want to be without this product!

I am in the Uk so it took a while to get the products - however the actual product is fantastic for IBS. IBS-D clears up really quickly and my IBS- C is hugely improved and getting better. I have been using this product for over a year - two tsp in the am has worked perfectly for me. Product is easily mixed in a smoothie, bowl of cream of rice, cup of coffee, cottage cheese, and scrambled eggs. It is tasteless and not gritty. Good job on this profuct!

Hi Harriet - I'm so sorry to hear this. The fiber shouldn't trigger any symptoms, or cause diarrhea/constipation. The starting dose is also not likely to help, though, as it's a very low dose meant to get your gut used to more fiber. In order to resolve diarrhea/constipation, you'll have to gradually increase from 1/2 tsp twice daily. You can add just 1/4 tsp extra to one of your doses, every 3-4 days, and take things slowly. Soluble fiber should never cause any IBS symptoms to flare, but it also might take a higher dose than the starting level to really resolve things. Please keep us posted.

Just Getting Started
I've only just started "what to eat when you can't eat" day 6 and on the mend it would seem. The peppermint tea is very soothing. I like the Acacia Senegal lacking taste, texture. The fennel tea is my second favorite. Ends bloating right away. But my gut hasn't felt good since 12/10/16 and got so bad I was hospitalized. Not one doctor helped me. Just eliminated what I didn't have. Found a doctor on the QT. Once I was diagnosed, I started researching your products. Thank you for being here for IBS people.

I can eat again.
Heather's Tummy Fiber Acacia Senegal has been absolutely amazing. Back in December 2016 my IBS-D got the worst it's ever been - constant flare-ups, unable to eat much of anything. I lost 30 lbs and was at a loss. I had referred to Heather's IBS book for many years and decided to look online for more help. When I saw the fiber I decided I had nothing to lose by trying it. It's important to follow the directions on the can. I started out with a very small amount because I was very cautious about anything I was ingesting. I didn't see much of an improvement the first few days, but since it dissolves so well and didn't seem to be having any negative impacts I kept at it, very gradually increasing it. I had it in the morning with my breakfast and right before going to bed (as some of my worst flare-ups were when I woke up in the morning) and I still do it this way. I had some slight bloating the second or third day of drinking it, but that went away and never returned. I'm not sure exactly how long it took to start making a real difference, maybe a week or two. I use about a teaspoon and a half two times a day in room temperature water. This is not a cure all. It doesn't mean I can eat whatever I want. But when I do once in a while indulge in something I know might trigger a flare-up, the flare-up is short lived and much less severe. This has helped me so much. One of the main symptoms of IBS, the urgency, barely plagues me anymore. If you have IBS-D you absolutely should try this.

Hi Diane - I'm so sorry to hear this. The fiber shouldn't clump if it is kept air tight. Please make sure you use the inner white plastic plug to keep the can sealed. The outer gold metal slipcover is not necessary, and it will not seal airtight.

Good product and I'm still working out the best dose for me.
I'm balancing the benefits of the acacia Senegal fiber with the slowness of digestion is seems to cause, and am taking between 1 and 1-1/2 tsp per day. More than that seems to "bind" me up! However, it DOES stop the cramping and gas. It's important though to maintain stress reduction techniques as well as dietary support, as diet and Tummy Fiber can't do all the work for you to protect your gut nerves!

Hi Barbara - I'm so sorry to hear the fiber has a funny taste. It should be totally tasteless, even in plain water, and completely undetectable if added to moist foods. It should also dissolve well, and there are some tips for that:

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot. Once dissolved, you can add any temp liquid you wish.

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with just enough liquid to dissolve it (like you'd dissolve cornstarch), and then add the remaining liquid.

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon.

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve.

5) Instead of adding a big spoonful all at once, sprinkle on moist foods while stirring.

If you still have loose stools, continue to gradually increase your daily dose until that fully resolves. Resolving the diarrhea should also really help the bloating and gas.

If you continue to have taste/dissolving issues please let us know and we can replace the canister.

I'm still trying to find the right serving for me.
The support system is fantastic!!! They have educated me about different food and how I need the difference between soluble and insoluble foods. That has been a big help! This isn't what I thought it would be.

I thought that it was basically a book all about IBS. I really did not expect it to be mainly recipes. I would have liked to adapt my tried and true recipes to help me with my IBS.

Your products have made my life much easier .
It took me a while to get started on the tummy fiber. I couldn't believe it would help as much as you said. I am now a believer. The fiber supplement has greatly improved my life! Is it working?

Hi Jayne - are you trying to address diarrhea or constipation? A starting dose of two tablespoons per day is very, very high. Most folks start with just a teaspoon or two per day, and gradually increase.

Have you seen any changes? If you've been on the same dose for a good five days or so, try adding an extra teaspoon to just one of your daily doses. Stay at that new level for 3 days or so, then add an extra teaspoon to your other dose. Continue the gradual, staggered dose increase until you stabilize. Diarrhea usually resolves at a lower dose than constipation.

Unexpected results didn't think it would happen
Experienced stomach cramps/pain for over 8 months. Went on low fodmap diet, prescription medication and laxatives and the use of a heating pad. Those helped but nothing significant. Ordered Tammys Tummy Fiber. Was somewhat skeptical. I also added over the counter product Natural Calm. Well I just want to say I have been pain free, no stomach cramps and regular for over 4 weeks. Dramatically reduced my symptoms from interstitial cystitis!
It has taken me over a year to figure out that my bladder symptoms were directly related to IBS. (Once I did, I found an interview with Heather online, that explain the link between interstitial cystitis and IBS.) I don't have the same, textbook symptoms of IBS as everyone else. Apparently my inflammation moves inward, and aggravates my bladder. I am following Heather's directions exactly, and have found a half a teaspoon in the morning after breakfast, as well as a half teaspoon after supper dramatically reduce my feelings of burning and constant sense of urgency. I can't thank you enough! I am still learning which foods to avoid, but I'm using the list in your pamphlet as a guide. Thank you for drastically increasing my quality-of-life! Now if I could just get my urologist on board…

Would not buy it again

Very difficult to get it to dissolve, no matter what temperature the water is. Also, the drink has a shimmy consistency. May be good for loose bowels but not for constipation.

Hi Joyce - Hello - I'm so sorry that you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree - also known as gum arabic. We have sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier since our company was founded. The gum arabic is collected in a similar way as maple syrup, although the gum is more of a solid than a liquid. This is how the pieces look when the gum is collected from the outside of the tree. Then, the gum is dissolved in water. Finally, it is filtered and heated for sterilization. Once that is all finished, the liquid is sprayed onto very large surfaces so that the water can evaporate. When the water evaporates, we are left with the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia. Every step is certified organic, including the orchards, the processing and our packaging. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, rather than a synthetic, highly processed product, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot. Once dissolved, you can add any temp liquid you wish.

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with just enough liquid to dissolve it (like you'd dissolve cornstarch), and then add the remaining liquid.

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon.

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve.

5) Instead of adding a big spoonful all at once, sprinkle on moist foods while stirring.

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

The fiber will work as well for constipation as for diarrhea, but you will likely end up on the higher end of the dose range. Diarrhea typically takes 1-3 tablespoons per day to resolve (some people need much less) while constipation often takes 2-5 tablespoons per day (again, some people need much less).

Tummy Fiber has changed my life!
A friend found this for me, and ordered it. I began taking it in December after a 4 month IBS flareup. I lost 25 pounds, and was very discouraged. While I still have weekly bouts, they are not as severe. I will continue to take this twice per day!

Regarding constipation, for the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). If you get gas or bloating, that means that you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, since it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

Excellent help for bathroom habits!
well I should have ordered this a long time ago. If you have IBS and especially the D type like I do, I found this is extremely helpful for keeping everything solid and more regular. You just have to find your right dose, and when I overdid it, became constipated. I only need 1 teaspoon daily. I'm not 100%,(and don't feel I ever will be) but a lot better! thank you Heather

I used this for my cat Rocco that has suffered with feline IBD for almost 2 years
After a few weeks on the acacia fiber, Rocco was able to control his bowel movements (thanks Heavens Finally) and they are now becoming solid. Rocco was down to just over 3 lbs and traditional medicine was not helping.
