Great Product
The tummy fiber has worked when nothing else I have tried didn't. I also like that it's all natural. The downfall is the water temperature has to be just right and I feel like I waste the fiber when I have to dump it out because the water/juice is too cold or too warm. Other than that-I am very pleased with the product!

I think this might be the answer to my problems!
This product is tasteless and does not turn into a gel. It is easy to drink. I started by using one quarter teaspoon before each meal. I am now at one teaspoon which seems to be the magic measurement for me. I have tried pills and powders and, so far, this one seems to consistently help me. I can now go back to eating my regular diet while being careful of any of my trigger foods. I am thankful.

Doesn't mix very well

From the product description I had hoped this product would mix better. Even after vigorous stirring, a good portion still left in the glass. I suspect it's the nature of the beast.

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree - also known as gum arabic. We have actually sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier from the time our company was founded. It is collected much like maple syrup, though the gum is more a solid than a liquid. They are amber colored, crystal-like pieces; these pieces are what the acacia gum looks like when it is collected from the outside of the tree. The gum is then dissolved in water, filtered, and the liquid is sprayed onto very large heated surfaces to sterilize the fiber and so the water can evaporate. What's left after the water evaporates is the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia, and every step from the orchards to the processing to our packaging facility is certified organic. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, and not a synthetic product that is highly processed, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, and even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

Very disappointed

I have been taking Citrucel for abt 14yrs. But still having the Big D for abt 15 years . So I decided to try this Product hoping it would help. Even tho I was taking 4 Citracel a day. I started out with 1/2 tsp. after trying for a week this product made be very uncomfortable, cramps ,bloated & gas .... So gave up on this and when back to the old citrucel again. Really wish it would have work for me . But no luck. But am glad it works for some people.... Wish there was a miracle pill for this thing they call IBS!! Maybe someday.

Hi Joyce - I'm so sorry you're not feeling better. You may be someone who is extra sensitive to any change in your fiber. Your Citrucel was at a very low dose (4 tablets = 2 grams), so you may need to drop below that dose if you change to the Tummy Fiber.

Normally, people can start on ½ teaspoon twice daily (that would be 2 grams), but for people who are just extra sensitive, they may have to start at ¼ teaspoon twice daily. That should not cause any bloating or gas, it should just get your gut used to a change. You can then add an extra ¼ tsp to one of your daily doses every 4-5 days or so, and keep gradually increasing at that rate.

Diarrhea does tend to resolve at a lower end of the dose range, but I don't think 2 grams will be enough. On average, diarrhea takes 5-15 grams per day, more typically 10-12 grams per day.

If you're willing to start over at a lower dose, I would hope you see big improvements with no side effects. If you prefer to just return the Tummy Fiber for a full refund you are certainly welcome to, and I understand.

Hi Karen - you can add the Tummy Fiber to any moist food or liquid, or cook with it. For liquids, just add to your glass first then add your beverage, stir and dissolve. You can also add it to bottled water, shake it up, and drink or take with you. Sprinkle on any wet food - hot cereals, guacamole, pastas, soups, sauces, dips, puddings, tuna salad, etc. For baking add 1 T fiber per cup of flour. For other cooking, whisk in 1 T fiber per cup of liquid. Hope this helps!

Opinion

I began taking 1/4 tsp twice a day ... I've been using this product for the past 2 weeks. I was thrilled when I didn't wake up with nausea from gas buildup during the night - still had the gas - but I developed cramping so I cut back to 1/4 tsp each day which does help but I still need the anti-spasmodic medicine Bentyl but not as much. I still experience 1/2 solid stool in pellet form and some solid and then diarrhea - I am keeping a food journal too but I don't think my system will ever return to normal again. This is my new normal. It's better and I am grateful for that. I also purchased the IBS cookbook which I read for dietary suggestions.

Hi Leslie - It's good that you have started the fiber at a low dose, but you need to gradually increase that dose in order to see any benefits. The purpose of starting low, increasing gradually, is to get your gut used to more fiber (fiber is literally indigestible).

¼ tsp is only ½ gram of fiber - that is not enough to get any benefits from. See if you can increase your dose to ½ tsp twice a day. After 4-5 days go to 1 tsp in the am, and still ½ tsp in the pm. After another 4-5 days make both doses 1 tsp. And continue to increase slowly but steadily from there.

The gradual increase should prevent gas and bloating. Getting your dose up high enough will help prevent the painful spasms from IBS.

Amazing Product that works GREAT!!!!!
I had a small bowel resection in 2008 due to blood clots in my mesenteric arteries. Due to scar tissue and adhesions from that surgery, I developed a bowel obstruction in December 2012. I was advised by a dietitian to avoid foods that are high in insolubl fiber. Since I have a sister with colon cancer, I was also advised to get plenty of fiber each day. After lots of confusion and frustration, I found the answer for both issues. Heather's Tummy Fiber has the soluble fiber that will help keep my colon healthy while also not causing issues with the bowel obstruction. It has no taste whatsoever and is easy to add to my water bottle 3 times per day. Thank you so much for the great product, fast shipping, and solution to my complicated issue!!!!

so far, it isn't helping too much with my chronic diarrhea?
I have short bowel syndrome which causes chronic diarrhea, so I thought maybe this would help, but I am not sure how much I should take? I have tried 1 tsp x 2/day and no luck, then I tried 2 tsp x 2/day and it seemed to help some, but I don't know if I should increase it or not? I was also considering trying your peppermint gels?

Acai Tummy Fiber
I've been taking a fiber and herb supplement for years, (it's only intended for short-term use), because it was the only thing I found that kept me regular. I stopped these supplements as soon as I began the acai fiber. The acai powder has been working great and produces consistent results. Excellent product. Easier when sprinkled over food because doesn't mix well in liquids, but stirring with a fork rather than a spoon definitely helps.

Hi there,
I am sorry to hear that you were less than satisfied with the Acacia Tummy Fiber. It can take a while to work up to the right dose, and it is important to start at a low dose and gradually increase. It is not something that will work overnight.
Depending on your symptoms, you may need to take a higher dose of the acacia than you are taking right now.
Typically, people with diarrhea symptoms see a resolving dose anywhere from 1-3 Tablespoons per day, and constipation usually requires more than that- anywhere from 3-5 Tablespoons.

Not at all satisfied with the way it doesn't dissolve.

Do you have a trick to make this product dissolve? I have stirred it into both cold and hot liquids both small and large amounts of liquid and cannot get it to dissolve in a short time. Sometimes there is some left on the spoon even when I think it is all dissolved. It really discourages me from using the product at all and I hate to see my money wasted.

Hi Ann - I'm so sorry to hear you're still struggling. Please make sure you started with a Tummy Fiber dose of ½ teaspoon twice daily, and that you are gradually increasing that dose by an extra ½ teaspoon every 4 days or so.

Diarrhea typically resolves at 1-3 tablespoons total per day, but you do have to reach those higher doses gradually. If you resolve at a lower dose, just stay there. You can continue to take Imodium with the fiber, that is not a problem at all. As your fiber dose increases and diarrhea resolves, you should be able to transition off the Imodium.

I am not sure if this is the specific Metamucil product you are using, but the flavoring and fillers in many Metamucil products can actually trigger IBS symptoms (especially the sugar free products, which contain artificial sweeteners like aspartame). Tummy fiber review

I was skeptical when beginning it, as it seemed to cause loose stools, but then I read some info on the forums about starting at a lower dose and that seemed to help. I am up to 1/4 tsp. twice a day and things seem to be going well. This combined with changing my diet and eating habits I have stopped taking my prescribed bentnyl....yay! Yours is the best book I have found!

easy fiber
i love that there is no taste or smell. i mix it into individual bottles of tea or juice and shake it up. it takes a minute but is so worth it- bad tastes and smells create nausea which is the last thing i need. it made some difference pretty quickly- i'm trying to figure out the right dose- can't quite tell if i need more or less. would love to know how others figured this out.

Mostly happy with product

My only complaint with the product is that it doesn't dissolve instantly. I put it in both hot and cold liquid. Hot is better but it is lumpy in cold liquid. I also wish the travel packets held more as I have to take a heaping tablespoon morning and evening and the packets will only last about one week.

Hello Helen,

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree - also known as gum arabic. We have actually sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier from the time our company was founded. It is collected much like maple syrup, though the gum is more a solid than a liquid. They are amber colored, crystal-like pieces; these pieces are what the acacia gum looks like when it is collected from the outside of the tree. The gum is then dissolved in water, filtered, and the liquid is sprayed onto very large heated surfaces to sterilize the fiber and so the water can evaporate. What's left after the water evaporates is the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia, and every step from the orchards to the processing to our packaging facility is certified organic. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, and not a synthetic product that is highly processed, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, and even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

If you are prone to heartburn/acid reflux you will want to wait a full hour before eating or drinking anything. I know this can be tough sometimes, but it will really help to make sure the Tummy Tamer does not get stuck in your stomach.

You will know if the Tummy Tamer is stuck in your stomach because you will taste peppermint in the back of your throat.

Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux. HOWEVER! There are some people who have problems with the caps when they wait the full hour before they eat. If you previously took the cap on an empty stomach, and waited an hour before eating, and still had problems, you might be one of those people. In that case, try taking a cap on an empty stomach just 5-10 minutes before eating, and see if that works better for you.

It may be easier to use fiber tablets, but they don't have as much fiber and are more expensive. The only drawbacks are mixing this into liquids (it's like making flour thickener for gravy, liquid into the powder or you get lumps) and having to measure it out. I suggested they include a measuring scoop with the canister. I just keep a small plastic measuring spoon inside.

Finding Heather's website was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. My IBS was getting to a point where I was nearly homebound. Everything I ate made me sick. I started taking an over the counter fiber, which helped a little, but the big warning on the label telling me I would probably choke to death kept me from taking the amount I needed and made me even more of a nervous wreck. I started taking Heather's acacia fiber when I saw that it didn't have choking properties. I got results almost immediately. Over time, I've been able to live much more normally (like most IBS sufferers, I haven't found a permanent solution yet). I can go out to eat more than five feet from my house, and I can take car trips (and even one plane trip) without suffering any problems. Although this isn't a magic powder that will solve IBS, it's the closest thing I've found.

same effect as regular fiber

after 3 days of only 1/2 teaspoon twice daily I was so miserable with trapped gas and bloating it had to be stopped . Your peppermint oil was a miraculous cure after 2 weeks but had to be given up after 3 weeks since it was eating up my esophagus and stomach. Hi, Elizabeth!
I am so sorry that you are experiencing problems with the Acacia Tummy Fiber and the Peppermint Capsules. I am sure that if you stick with it, and continue using the Fiber, you will see results. It can take a while to build up to a resolving dose.

I've included some helpful information below on how the Tummy Fiber and Peppermint Capsules work, as well as methods for reducing your bloating and gas.

If you decide you do not want to use the Acacia Tummy Fiber/Peppermint Oil Capsules, you can return them opened or unopened for a refund.

Some people need to take a very small dose to start because their bodies are sensitive to fiber. Try taking just 1/4 measuring teaspoon twice a day. It may be that you just need to start at a very low dose.

Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because this really does work.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose). If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn’t take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

Peppermint is contraindicated for people with GERD/Reflux/chronic heartburn. Many people with IBS often have these conditions, so we worked around it by enteric coating the peppermint oil capsules. This helps them to pass through the stomach without dissolving by making them resistant to the stomach acid. In fact, we doubled the enteric coating on our peppermint caps because we found it helped people with these conditions to be able to use them to manage their IBS without aggravating their upper GI issues.

However, some people with severe GERD/Reflux/chronic heartburn still have problems with the peppermint capsules because they will dissolve in the stomach before reaching the intestines. The antispasmodic effect you want to happen in your intestines will then occur in the stomach and this relaxes the sphincters at the top of the stomach. If this happens, it can lead to heartburn.

There are a few things we have found that help to prevent this from happening:

1) Take the peppermint capsules on an empty stomach an hour before the meal to allow them time to reach the intestines and dissolve before the food arrives. Taking them too close to meal time can be problematic for people with reflux.

2) The peppermint caps should not be taken during or after a meal because the food will block them from reaching the intestines and this could cause them to dissolve in the stomach.

3) Drinking only enough liquid to swallow the capsules seems to help them pass through without dissolving in the stomach. The enteric coating makes them resistant to stomach acid, but they are still water soluble. Limiting the amount of liquid they’ll be floating around in will help them reach their destination.

4) You shouldn’t take them at the same time as any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) designed to lower the stomach acid. Lowering the stomach acid makes the enteric coating less likely to work (remember it is resistant to high acid). For folks who need to take these medications, what we came up with is taking the peppermint caps about an hour before you take the acid lowering/blocking medication. This will give them a better chance of making it down to the intestines where they will dissolve and start to take effect without affecting the upper GI.

I am sorry you are not seeing results as quickly as you would like. For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). If you get gas or bloating, that would mean you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either. You may want to start over following these directions and see if you have better luck.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

Hi there,

I am so sorry that the Acacia Tummy Fiber isn’t working well for your constipation issues. I’ve included below some instructions on how to take it to make it work more efficiently. I am sure you’ll see success if you follow our steps on how to find the right dose for you. Acacia Tummy Fiber does not cause Constipation or Diarrhea, but it does take time to find the right dose.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose). If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn’t take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

Acacia helps people with diarrhea to have formed bowel movements and people with constipation to have softer and easier to pass bowel movements. People often experience significant improvement within a couple weeks when they make the dietary and fiber changes at the same time; although, constipation does take longer to resolve than diarrhea. It is not uncommon for constipation folks to increase the acacia very slowly because they are more likely to have trouble with painful gas and bloating. It can take 1-2 months to work up to the daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day sometimes. It will only make you miserable if you increase the dose too quickly. Important changes are taking place inside the colon as the body adjusts, so just be patient and let your body gently adjust to the acacia. Constipation folks will often need to continue to use whatever methods they were using previously to keep things moving until they are able to work up to the 4 tablespoons/day dose or so. Please don’t stop everything cold turkey and make yourself sick because this will take some time. The overwhelming feedback I hear from people is that once they reach this dose it is a magical experience and they are able to stop relying on the other medications etc they have always needed to have a normal movement at least once a day.

Not working well for me

I was very excited to try the Tummy Fiber and very hopeful that it would help me. However, it has not worked for me. First let me tell you that I have been diagnosed with IBS and have also been diagnosed with Gastroparesis. I do not have diarrhea, if anything, I have constipation (or lack of movement since my stomach only empties every 5 hours). I have a very healthy diet and eat very little at a time. When I read on your website that the Tummy Fiber would help with diarrhea OR constipation I was thrilled. I started with 1 teaspoon twice a day. It slowed things down even more, bulked up my stool, actually making my situation worse. And yes, I am trying to follow your soluble, insoluble, stay away from trigger foods plan. I do everything I know to do and nothing helps. I feel so helpless. Nothing works, nothing helps, nothing makes it better. :(

Typically, a resolving dose for individuals suffering from constipation will fall between 3 and 5 tablespoons. As the Tummy Fiber will not cause constipation or diarrhea, it may be the case that you need to reach a higher dose before experiencing symptom relief. I would recommend continuing with the Tummy Fiber and gradually increasing your dose by 1/2 to 1 teaspoon every 4 to 5 days. I ordered this product because I was experiencing constipation due to newly prescribed medication. I did not want to start the merry go round of stool softeners and laxatives. I feel normal again
I started with 1/2 teaspoon twice a day dose (once in the morning and then after dinner) and within the first week I was starting to become regular and noticing a lot less gas. I tried to up the dose gradually but I think it may have been too much because I had diarrhea, unless that was something unrelated. I stayed at the 1/2 teaspoon dose and it keeps me regular but would like to increase it to help a little more with the constipation. I missed a dose or two during the past week and I had horrible trapped gas pains...needless to say I will not miss a dose again! I have had gastric bypass surgery and this stuff really helps me with controlling gas, because its a big problem afterwards. My "bad" IBS days went from 2-3 a week to not even once a week, more like 1 bad day out of 3 weeks. This product is awesome!

Hi Carol - I am so sorry to hear this. There should be no way that the Tummy Fiber can cause diarrhea. Soluble fiber can only help both diarrhea and constipation.

Did you start at a dose of ½ teaspoon twice daily and gradually increase? Most folks need to work up to about 2 or 3 tablespoons per day for the best results. But, some people do stabilize at a lower dose, and chronic constipation tends to take 4-5 tablespoons per day.

What you don't want is to just stay at ½ teaspoon twice a day, as that isn't enough to do anything for you. It's just a beginning dose to get your gut used to an increase in fiber. You also want to increase gradually, not suddenly or drastically increase your dose and overwhelm your gut.

Please let me know if you have any questions and would like more help with your dosage. You are also welcome to simply return the Tummy Fiber if you can't use it.

I am IBS-C (severely). I get bloated, gassy and stomach distention from my IBS. I love Acacia fiber supplement. It is an excellent source of fiber for IBS. It relieves my bloating, gas and stomach distention as well as helping my bile. Acacia has a probiotic in it. The probiotic I take daily along with the Acacia gives me great relief. Are you talking about an allergy to acacia trees? There shouldn't be a connection between an allergy to acacia pollen or leaves and the acacia fiber. We do have folks allergic to acacia trees who do fine with the acacia fiber. The fiber is actually only produced by two specific species of acacia trees, which only grow in Africa. The fiber comes from a gum that these trees produce (sort of like maple syrup) when the temperature hits a certain height.

Acacia fiber is also known as gum arabic. A gum allergy is quite rare. If you are allergic to gum arabic, or to gums in general (guar gum, locust bean gum, etc.) then you'd want to avoid acacia fiber.

Need to experiment more

Fiber either caused or coincided with terrible bout of constipation, so I quit using it. Tea seemed to cause bloating.

Hello Andrea,

I am so sorry you experienced constipation. The Tummy Fiber will not actually cause constipation, but will help to resolve bowel motility issues. I would recommend trying the Tummy Fiber Acacia Senegal one more time.

Please make sure you start with a low dose and gradually increase to a higher resolving does. Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because this really does work.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose). If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn't take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

Uneven results so far.

At first I thought that I had the answer to chronic constipation. But the effects have faded quite a bit. Very hard stools and none some days. I will keep working with the amount I use. My feeling is that eventually it will work the way I had hoped for. It is not possible for me to follow the diet so that has some effect. I live in a community and what is prepared is what there is. I am 75 years old and in poor health. I cannot cook for myself.

Hi Robert - I'm so sorry your results with the Tummy Fiber have faded a bit. That usually means you simply need to gradually increase your dose a bit higher. Sometimes people stabilize at a certain dose, and then something comes along that upsets their gut, and they need to raise their Tummy Fiber dose to get back on track. That's okay, the fiber is flexible that way, so you can adjust your dose depending on how you're doing. Just make sure you increase your dose gradually, maybe by an extra teaspoon every 4 days or so.

still not working

I have had chronic constipation for a long, long time. I started out with 2 tbsp a day and finally raised it to 4. I don't have the bloating feeling but am still not going to the bathroom. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Maureen - For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight. Two tablespoons per day is far too high a dose to start with. This will just overload your gut with fiber and you won't get results. Please drop your dose back down to just 1 teaspoon twice daily, and increase by just an extra ½ teaspoon to one dose every four days or so.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either.

Purchsing Tummy Fiber
First off I would like to say that my IBS was not as horrible as some of the cases I have heard about. It would hit me about twice a month with not to much pain, but I needed to be very near a bathroom when it did hit. The tummy fiber has both reduced the amount it has happened, and lessened the severity when it does. Also episodes dont last as long now. Since I am not a severe case I take about a tablespoon twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. One of the best benefits is how regular and "healthy" my bowel movements are now even when I do not have any episodes. I can travel and fly with a lot more confidence now! I like that this is a preventative and natural remedy, rather than having an uneducated doctor tell cutting me a prescription for some pills after the fact. Thank you for thinking of us Heather.

The Acacia Tummy Fiber is a life saver,
I just wanted to thank you for this site, as a long term sufferer of IBS and acid reflux it has helped tremendously. It seems that if my IBS is alleviated the acid reflux is almost non-existent. The Acacia Tummy Fiber is a life saver, thank you so much for that. I just started it and even though it says it might take a few weeks I've noticed a change after a few days. I used Citrucel for years but the bloating was horrible. That is my worst problem with IBS, severe bloating after I eat even just a little.

an easy way to increase my soluble fiber intake
I recently purchased your book, Eating for IBS, and have been so blessed by the recipes. I'm also finding the Tummy Fiber(another recent purchase) wonderful, because it's so versatile. Being able to mix it into soups or add it to recipes like pumpkin pie has been an easy way to increase my soluble fiber intake. I recognize that discovering your website on the internet about a month ago was the Lord's tender mercies to me in my desperate struggle to have a somewhat normal functioning of my intestinal system. I just wanted to let you know that the Acacia Tummy Fiber is helping me tremendously. It is literally changing my life. I do not have IBS - but I am chronically constipated
Various doctors over the years have simply told me to eat more fiber, take various softners and fiber suppliments... none of which have ever done much for me. A nurse practitioner told my that I have a "hypotonic colon" so for whatever reason, my body takes out more water than it should. The past year has been very stressful for me, my problem flared up and I had been unable to bring it back under control as before. I eat mainly vegetarian anyways, drink plenty of water, walk my dog, do everything they say that you are supposed to do. A friend of mine with IBS told me about your site. I am now taking 24g of your Acacia Tummy Fiber every day and am happier with my gut than I have been in the past year. None of the fiber at stores has ever helped, I have never been able to take this amount without extreme gassiness. Your fiber is organic, doesn't gas me up and it works. I love it, it has changed my life. I can now eat the occasional bit of cheese while out with friends, eat a hamburger on occasion, basically feel like a normal person again. Your information in IBS has been very helpful to me. I also ordered the Acacia for my aunt who has suffered terribly with IBS (possibly IBD). Since she stared using the Acacia regularly, her problems have all but disappeared. Thank you so much. My aunt has mentioned to me numerous times how well the Acacia worked for her. Her problems were so severe that she was having to take cortisone enemas(!) and they weren't helping. It's funny, because I mentioned to my doctor that I was making some dietary changes to help with my IBS and she told me that research had proven that diet didn't make any difference with IBS. How wrong she was.

I found your website in February - ever since then, I've been reading up on others' experiences, following the diet, trying all your recipes, and taking the Acacia Tummy Fiber every day. I wanted to tell you how happy I am now, in so many ways, in comparison to a year ago! I work as the Production Editor for Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, a journal from which you regularly feature excerpts in your newsletters. Basically, I receive the hard copy manuscripts and carry them through the production process, until the journal appears on the shelf twice a month. Isn't it interesting, though, that for all the articles I read about IBS, IBD and Crohn's disease every month in my journal, your website is far more practical for a good quality of life for all of us sufferers out there!
