Not at all satisfied with the way it doesn't dissolve.

Do you have a trick to make this product dissolve? I have stirred it into both cold and hot liquids both small and large amounts of liquid and cannot get it to dissolve in a short time. Sometimes there is some left on the spoon even when I think it is all dissolved. It really discourages me from using the product at all and I hate to see my money wasted.

Hi Jeanne,

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree - also known as gum arabic. We have actually sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier from the time our company was founded. It is collected much like maple syrup, though the gum is more a solid than a liquid. They are amber colored, crystal-like pieces; these pieces are what the acacia gum looks like when it is collected from the outside of the tree. The gum is then dissolved in water, filtered, and the liquid is sprayed onto very large heated surfaces to sterilize the fiber and so the water can evaporate. What's left after the water evaporates is the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia, and every step from the orchards to the processing to our packaging facility is certified organic. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, and not a synthetic product that is highly processed, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, and even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

I am having trouble getting my body used to the fiber. Still having diarrhea and having to take Imodium. Hoping to get some relief.

Hi Ann - I'm so sorry to hear you're still struggling. Please make sure you started with a Tummy Fiber dose of ½ teaspoon twice daily, and that you are gradually increasing that dose by an extra ½ teaspoon every 4 days or so.

Diarrhea typically resolves at 1-3 tablespoons total per day, but you do have to reach those higher doses gradually. If you resolve at a lower dose, just stay there. You can continue to take Imodium with the fiber, that is not a problem at all. As your fiber dose increases and diarrhea resolves, you should be able to transition off the Imodium.

Tummy fiber is excellent but delivery slow

Tummy fiber is excellent and was gaining control of symptoms. Unfortunately i ran out of fiber before my delivery arrived!!! It takes longer than expected to arrive in the UK

I'm so sorry you had delays with the delivery of this order. Normally orders to foreign countries take 3-7 business days. Sometimes, however, foreign orders are held up at Customs.

It is very frustrating for us as well because it seems to be totally random as to whether Customs will hold an order and for how long. We have customers that order from us regularly for years without any complications and then out of the blue one of their packages will be detained for weeks on end.

One option you could consider would be to place your order through our UK wholesale customer. Their site is here

Tummy fiber and tummy tea rock!

I have used Heather's Tummy Tea and Tummy Fiber for years. I was originally diagnosed with Celiac and IBS. I found Heather's site and started on the tummy fiber and fennel tea. Finally got the IBS under control and, long story short, I was then told it was not Celiac but a severe case of Hypocalcemia. This condition can also create IBS. I now, with the help of tummy fiber and fennel tea, am able to control the IBS symptoms and have gotten my life and health back. Heather has done amazing work and research. Thank you Heather!

Hi WJ - I'm so sorry you aren't seeing better results from the Tummy Fiber.

I do recommend starting with just ½ level teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose).

If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea.

Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn't take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms.

Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

If you are unable to use the fiber or remain unhappy with it, by all means please do return it for a full refund.

This is the best fiber I have ever used, saved my life.
I am 65 yrs old and began diarrhea in late June and the condition continued without ceasing until early Oct. Gastroenterologists did all the test and I was told I had IBS. The only thing they gave me was immodium or pepto bismol. I lost 17 lbs, became anemic, my total proteins dropped normal, and I felt that I might die. I ordered the Acacia fiber and the diet book. Slowly my diarrhea stopped and I began to be able to eat food again. Before I was using my stored fat to supply energy for my body. I lost from 130 to 113 lbs. One NP told me that basically there was nothing wrong with me. At the end of my ordeal, they did do an IBD panel and some immune markers came back positive. It was them revealed to me, when my colonscopy was performed that I had an area of inflammatiom, but it did not fit the textbook picture. All in all, I feel the medical community let me down medically and I am so thankful I found Heather's website. I continue on the fiber and the recipes.

doesn't works for me, it aggraves my diarea crisis

I bought 3 pouches because I have confidence but I lost money because I've used only one bag. Before I take it, I had one crisis per week or 2 week, but after I began to take this, I had crises every 2 days, and I take it exactly as described. Now, since I had stopped to take it, I feel better, one crises per week...mostly when I go to restaurant, so I suppose it's because of stress. But I'm happy that this product works for some people who have diarea...but for me, only diet can help...but I can drink milk and cheese without problem (I drink about 2 litres of skim milk per day) but many vegetables and fruits I cannot eat because right after I have crise. Sorry for my bad english, I'm francophone of Montréal, Canada, bye bye

Washington Street, Suite 304, Seattle, WA 98104. Once we receive it, we will process a refund back to the card you used for the order.

As an aside, dairy is one of the top IBS triggers, and it will be very difficult for you to stop diarrhea if you're drinking 2 liters of milk a day. Please at least try cutting out dairy to see if it helps you.

Fails to fully dissolve

unlike the can version, the packet, even when using hot water, clots. after vigorous stirring at the beginning and then every 3 or 4 minutes, there white lumps attached to the fork and the side of the glass. i am terribly disappointed with the pouch acacia. i would like to return the two remaining bags, at my expense, and then order another can.

A must have for controlling IBS!!!!
This product is amazing. It has helped me tremendously with controlling my IBS. I put it in my water bottle first thing in the morning and then again in the afternoon. It dissolves completely and there is no taste. If you are having problems controlling your IBS this is the first product you should try. It really works!!!! And so worth the money!!!!

Rating is a 3 these days as I am having much trouble.

I have had IBS C for many years and now it is much worse. Dr says my age is a part of it, I'm 84, and I have very bad constipation daily. I try to follow the diet but am getting nowhere.My straining to have a bm caused palpitations for an hour one day, and nose bleeding on several occasions. I'm not able to take laxatives because of bad side effects, so I try walking but I'm stil in big trouble. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Hi Bette - what is your current daily dose of the acacia, and are you taking it twice daily? Constipation does require a gradual increase to a higher end of the dose range, which may be anywhere from 2 to 5 tablespoons per day total. You do need to reach those doses gradually, though.

Just5 started with this- haven't seen any change yet- in 2 days.

Not knowing what the refill pouch meant, I ordered the pouch, and when I saw it wasn't refillable or closable, I wished I had ordered the product in a can that was resealable and refillable. My mistake.

I've been looking for something to help with my constipation and diarrhea for about 3 years. The Acacia seems to be helping. I've only been using it for about 6 weeks and there is marked improvement.

I live in Canada and ordering from US is a little slow but I do have a contact in Ontario so probably will use them.

I have not been diagnosed with IBS but started to have stomach issues when I did not eat a bland diet. I have had tests and so far nothing is wrong. It is very difficult however when you have to run to the ladies room a number of times during the day. I would say I have the symptoms of IBS-D. The first time I tried the fiber I took too much at once. I so wanted it to work. I then carefully took small amounts and gradually increased it to 1 tablespoon three times a day. It's great to be able to take a natural product and get away from the Imodium. I still have to watch my diet but have been able to add some more vegetables and a small amount of red meat into my diet. Thanks to all… Susan

Hi Daria - For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may likely be 4-5 tablespoons a day).

If you get gas or bloating, that would mean you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks or even a few months to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

I titered up more slowly since I tend to be very sensitive to everything. This product does really work for constipation dominant IBS. I was terribly bloated with other products and this gave the least side effects of anything I have tried and I am not even sure there are side effects because my gastrointestinal system really acts up sometimes for no reason. Now, I no longer have hard, dry stools. Great product. The fennel tea also helps.

Tummy fiber review

I was skeptical when beginning it, as it seemed to cause loose stools, but then I read some info on the forums about starting at a lower dose and that seemed to help. I am up to 1/4 tsp. twice a day and things seem to be going well. This combined with changing my diet and eating habits I have stopped taking my prescribed bentnyl....yay! The Tummy Fiber should not cause constipation or diarrhea. Please make sure you start with a low dose and gradually increase by 1/2 teaspoon every 4-5 days. If you increase too quickly you will not see the results you are looking for.

You are correct, though, sudden and drastic changes to your diet can affect your bowel movements. Make sure you are eating plenty of soluble fiber and are staying away from the trigger foods. Also, insoluble fiber foods are important to your diet, but please make sure you are cooking, chopping, or pureeing the insoluble fiber foods and eating them with soluble fiber.

Wouldn't want to be without the tummy fiber

I order the tummy fiber several times a year because I know I feel so much better when I mix some in water every day and drink it. I try to think ahead, so I never run out. I have a busy job and lots to do at home, so I don't always have time to cook potatoes and lots of veggies. Having the fiber means that my IBS stays under much better control, to the point where there are days I never even think about it.

I am sorry to hear you may not be getting the results you hoped. Do you suffer from IBS-C? If so, you can find some great tips for IBS-C here: http://www.helpforibs.com/footer/constipation.asp

For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 3-5 tablespoons a day). If you get gas or bloating, that would mean you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, as it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose up high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either. You may want to start over following these directions and see if you have better luck.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

Hello Bonnie,

Thank you for your comments. When starting to take the Tummy Fiber, it is important to start with a low dose and gradually work your way up to a higer resolving dose. Taking too much acacia too fast can cause increased gas and bloating. Acacia is one of the lowest gas-forming fibers out there and going slow makes the gas issue totally avoidable. Please be patient because this really does work.

We recommend starting with ½ teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon). You can split the daily dose up as many time as you like throughout the day, just divide it by 2 or 3 depending on the frequency you prefer. Try to increase the dose every 4th day or so by a teaspoon (add this to the daily dose). If you get increased gas and bloating by jumping the dose up by a teaspoon, try cutting this in half. Some people with IBS are so sensitive they have to go up at ¼ teaspoons every 4th day. Keep stepping up the dose every 4th day or so until you find a dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea. Constipation is usually resolved with a daily dose of 4-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea/loose stools usually resolves at a lower dose of 1-3 tablespoons/day. You shouldn't take more than 5 tbsp/day. The maintenance dose is different for each person depending on their specific symptoms. Dietary changes are often necessary to make lasting changes. In the beginning until you stabilize, it works best to take the acacia before each meal to minimize the effect of trigger foods in the meal and to calm the intestines before the food arrives.

I am so sorry about the delay in shipping to Canada. Have you received your order?

Your order shipped out on 7/11, and normally orders to foreign countries take 3-7 business days. Sometimes, however, foreign orders are held up at Customs. It is very frustrating for us as well because it seems to be totally random as to whether Customs will hold an order and for how long. We have customers that order from us regularly for years without any complications and then out of the blue one of their packages will be detained for weeks on end.

Unfortunately, the US Postal Service does not provide accurate tracking for international packages weighing less than 4 pounds. So when I track your package the information does not even show it has left the United States.

It has been our experience that Customs can hold packages for 6-8 weeks sometimes. This doesn't happen to all packages, but occasionally especially with larger orders, it can happen. A delay like this is especially likely to happen when there are Customs fees due upon delivery. Sometimes orders will be held at the local post office, awaiting customer pick-up and payment of the Customs fees. This has actually happened in the past without the post office ever notifying the customer that their package was being held.

If you have not received your package, you could check and see if your local post office does have the order for you. If things are held up in Customs, we just have to wait until they're finally processed through. All of their contact will be with you, so I never even know if Customs is holding a package until the customer passes this info along to me.

better than any fiber product I have ever taken!
Well nedless to say I have taken metamucil, yuck! plus it gives you gas and has additives that I don't like. This soluble fiber has started to help my severe constipation and I am soooo happy with it, I work out, drink tons of water eat all the right things, no meat, almond milk only and nothing helped untill I started taking this product.....thank you so much. I feel like a different person!

Mostly happy with product

My only complaint with the product is that it doesn't dissolve instantly. I put it in both hot and cold liquid. Hot is better but it is lumpy in cold liquid. I also wish the travel packets held more as I have to take a heaping tablespoon morning and evening and the packets will only last about one week.

Hello Helen,

I'm so sorry you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree - also known as gum arabic. We have actually sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier from the time our company was founded. It is collected much like maple syrup, though the gum is more a solid than a liquid. They are amber colored, crystal-like pieces; these pieces are what the acacia gum looks like when it is collected from the outside of the tree. The gum is then dissolved in water, filtered, and the liquid is sprayed onto very large heated surfaces to sterilize the fiber and so the water can evaporate. What's left after the water evaporates is the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia, and every step from the orchards to the processing to our packaging facility is certified organic. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, and not a synthetic product that is highly processed, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, and even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with add just enough liquid to dissolve it, then add the remaining liquid

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve

5) Sprinkle on moist foods while stirring it in instead of adding a big spoonful all at once

6) A customer recently wrote us to say that he uses a Cuisinart Quick-Prep hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

Great company
The tummy fiber has done a great job at keeping my IBS symptoms at a minimum. Of course at times, which few and far between, I have an attack but Heather's advice and the tummy fiber get me back on track quickly.
