This producy has been sucessful for me. It took time and some experimenting to get it right.
Now I take 2 to 3 teaspoons once or twice per day. If the morning dose is late or I forget until too late in the evening I only take it once a day. Some days I do not have results but if not I do the following day. I feel grateful about it! Thank you!

An answer at last!

Acacia fiber

1 gave the product a 4 because I have difficulty with the container. It is really difficult to get the lid off, it was really tight, it is the same with the tea. The lid came apart and ther is a very sharp edge. I do love your acacia fiber!

Hello Sharon - both books have been revised and updated repeatedly over the years. But in the publishing world, only a formal second edition will change the copyright dates (and that will change the ISBN numbers as well), and I have not done that. It's a big deal to change the ISBN numbers (that involves the publisher, the Library of Congress, and then all kinds of press/catalog updates). I'm the author, but not the publisher, and the original publishing house has been sold and resold several times at this point so I no longer have the same editor.

The most perishable info will always be prescription medication brands and details and brand name references for foods, etc., as products come and go off the market so fast in both those categories.

The dietary information, guidelines, recipes, etc. in the books would still be current. There has been no change to the fundamental principles of eating to keep the gastrocolic reflex calm - limiting stimulants/triggers such as fats, being cautious with stimulants such as insoluble fiber, using soluble fiber as a foundation to keep the gut calm, etc. The underlying pathology of IBS hasn't changed, nor has basic human anatomy and digestion, so the dietary guidelines needed to keep colonic motility stable remain unchanged.

Hi Janet - please let us know details and we'll help. We normally recommend starting with 1/2 teaspoon twice a day (daily dose of 1 teaspoon total). Every 4 days or so, add an extra 1/2 teaspoon to one of your daily doses. Alternate which dose you increase so you are going slow and steady.
You don't want to increase your dose too much, too quickly, as your gut needs to get used to any fiber increase gradually. All fibers are indigestible, so suddenly or drastically increasing your dose can cause bloating and gas.
Keep stepping up your dose every 3-5 days or so until you gradually reach the dose that resolves your constipation and/or diarrhea.
In general, constipation resolves at 3-5 tablespoons/day and diarrhea at a lower dose, typically 1-3 tablespoons/day. If your symptoms resolve at a lower dose than is typical, stay there. If you need more than the average dose, that is just fine, continue to gradually increase.
The fiber will work regardless of how you take it - added to plain water, sprinkled over moist foods, added to foods you cook, on an empty stomach, full stomach, etc. In general, it's usually most helpful to take the fiber right before or right in a meal as it will help keep your gut calm after you eat.

Clumpy mess

Hi Diana - I'm so sorry to hear you had trouble. Please note the fiber is granulated to dissolve best in room temp liquids. For something like hot coffee, add the powder to dry cup first, add just barely enough room temp liquid (water, coffee, whatever) to liquefy, and then add the rest of the hot coffee. That will be much faster and easier. Or just add the powder directly into moist foods with meals, you don't have to have with liquids at all.
And just fyi, coffee is a huge GI irritant, even decaf, so be careful - see here https://www.helpforibs.com/news/coffee-ibs.asp It will be much easier on your gut to get caffeine if you need it from black or green tea.
You might try switching to adding the powder to breakfast/dinner foods to make this as easy as possible. If that's not a good option for you please do return for a full refund, no time limits, never a problem.

Delicious and Effective
I am really enjoying the fennel tea in place of my morning coffee. I brew it using six tea bags per quart of water. I dilute this concentrate to 50 percent and enjoy one to two cups a day and refrigerate the rest of the concentrate. This, along with Heather's fiber, is working to relieve my current IBS flare. I will continue using this! Also, the customer service is TOP NOTCH. I had an issue with my order and they took care of it in a very speedy and gracious manner. Effective for me
I began using this fiber in an attempt to alleviate the worst IBS flare I have ever had. It is proving to be very effective for me. I am using it in conjunction with the fennel tea and am experiencing improvement. Best Acacia Fiber on the Market
I tried other manufacturers of acacia fiber and they were gritty and bitter and did not mix well into anything. I have been using this product for two years.
After a lifetime,73 years and birth , of constipation, a doctor diagnosed me with IBS. The prescriptions given to me gave me diarrhea . My husband found peppermint oil capsules . Then I added this product. Combined they take care of the problem. To those who have been constipated for life,I recommend a colonoscopy to check for polyps and diverticulosis. It is a simple test involving sending a camera up your "privates." It sounds gross ,something a lady doesn't discuss, but is necessary.

Soothes acid reflux

Relief finally.

I am very pleased with the effects of the acacia fiber...thank goodness for a product that really does what it promises.
This does not dissolve instantly. Add it to liquid or any food but, give it a few seconds to soak and then stir it into the liquid or other foods to distribute it. . . Not a problem ... just a little technic.

This has helped me so much!
I have been struggling with IBS for several years. My flare ups coincide with travel especially. Lately it can be a small day trip even. Using the fiber has helped me with the urgency and frequency and cramps ( the peppermint pills helped also with cramps). I bought the travel fiber packets and bring those with a small cup and water bottle when I go anywhere for several hours or more. I used to treat the IBS with over the counter remedies, which were worked but can't be used frequently. This is natural. Hi Lynn - I'm so sorry, please hang in there, the tummy fiber cannot cause or worsen diarrhea or constipation, or flip one to the other, but it also won't help you until there is enough of it in your gut 24/7 to regulate motility. In the meantime everything that is impacting your gut will keep impacting it. It's a process to work up your dose of any soluble fiber supplement, and you are still on a very low end if it's only been two weeks.
Details:

There are two kinds of fiber, insoluble and soluble. Insoluble is a stimulant and can set off IBS symptoms, and if you have strictures it can cause intestinal blockages. The tummy fiber is pure soluble fiber so it won't do that - it can't. It's not a stimulant, it's a bowel motility regulator. It can't cause blockages, diarrhea, or constipation, but it also will not help you until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, 24/7, to regulate motility.

In the meantime, everything else will keep impacting your gut and you will likely keep fluctuating day to day. The tummy fiber is 100% soluble fiber, it can't make anything worse, but it also will not help you with just the first dose or two, or first few days or two. For constipation, it likely won't help the first week or two either. This is because you are starting at a low dose that won't do anything at all, it is just to get your gut used to more fiber gradually. All fibers are indigestible, so you always want to increase fiber slowly and steadily,

Do not skip doses, do not jump your dose up and then down and then up and then down, do not skip days - none of this will work. This is a process, it can't be erratic, it takes some time and patience, and you have to follow the process consistently, day in and day out, or soluble fiber will not do what you want it to do.

You need to start with just ½ teaspoon twice daily and then gradually increase. Add an extra ½ teaspoon to just one of your doses, every 3-4 days. So add an extra ½ teaspoon to your morning dose, wait 3-4 days and then add an extra ½ teaspoon to your evening dose, wait 3-4 days and then increase your morning dose again, etc. You'll keep following that pattern and gradually work up to the dose your gut needs for normal motility. A rough average final dose for diarrhea is 1-3 Tablespoons per day total, for alternating diarrhea/constipation probably 2-3 Tablespoons per day total, and constipation a likely 3-5 Tablespoons per day total. That shows you the huge dose range, and also how far you will likely have to increase from the starting dose of just ½ teaspoon twice a day.

The fiber cannot make anything worse, but again, until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, it won't help you either, because it has to reach the point where it can control your bowel motility. You just will not have enough of it in your gut to affect you at all until you have worked your way far enough into the process.

I will tell you candidly it will probably take you a few months to work up to the dose you would need to resolve chronic constipation, and in the meantime you'll still have symptoms, and you may need to use laxatives if you're already doing that. You should see improvements kick in as you gradually get your dose up around 3 tablespoons per day total, and then you'd keep gradually increasing until you feel stable day and day out. You can't just jump to this dose though - fiber does not work that way. I wish it did! But you have to gradually get your gut used to more fiber, and then reach the point you need for motility regulation. Once you hit that you stay at whatever that dose is, morning and evening, as soluble fiber literally only works when it is physically present in your gut.

I also have GERD so some of these recipes require ingredients that I can't tolerate such as tomato products of any form. This is a very nice cookbook. Lots of options for cooks like me, who don't have tons of experience. Regular cookbook rely so much on frying. We can't eat that way and be safe! Some recipes build on others so you can get comfortable with techniques and then branch out. It's great having an entire arsenal of safe foods. The recipes are pretty adaptable for celiac sufferers, too. That is good for me and my family. There might be a few more shrimp recipes than necessary, but that's a minor complaint. The Jamaican chicken is so good. I am loving the simple rice porridge for days when nothing agrees with me. Haven't gotten to the desserts yet, but look out! This book is a good value for the number of recipes you get.

Hi Maryanne - that is correct, Eating for IBS is helpful for everyone with IBS as it is based on how the human gut reacts (or over-reacts) to foods across the board. FODMAPs is much more limited, it must be done with a registered dietitian supervising, it must be keyed to each individual, and about 30% of folks with IBS have no FODMAPS intolerances, so that is a useless diet for many.

I think of FODMAPS as the cherry on the IBS diet sundae. You need to get the universal trigger foods (stimulants, irritants) and soluble vs insoluble fiber guidelines down first, as those affect everyone's gut. That may be all the dietary changes you need. If you get that foundation established, and still have trouble (especially bloating), at that point try adding in FODMAP exclusions with a dietitian. Effective and Helpfiul
I love these teas! I have long known the anti-bloating and anti-gas properties of fennel, but these tea bags make it easy and convenient to work fennel into my daily life. I particularly rely on this tea after lunch at work and it truly does help with bloating and gas- which also helps ease my anxiety about having inconvenient/ embarrassing IBS symptoms at work. I also love the attractive packaging. The price is extremely reasonable and fair for the amount of tea bags included.

Miracle product for me!
I've never had an official diagnosis but have been having stomach problems for the past 7 years, seemingly triggered by a stressful event. I've tried probiotics, low fodmap diet, etc. Low fodmap helps for sure but I still had flare ups. I heard about this acacia sengal and decided to give it a try. I went slow, working my way up to 2 teaspoons, two times a day and it's worked magically for me. No more stomach pain. So thankful I found this and will definitely continue to buy! Life saver
Started taking this last year after a particularly difficult digestive period. Got up to 2 tablespoons per day and have been more stable than I have ever been since my symptoms started years ago. I do take a digestive enzyme as well as a low FODMAP diet, and I take strides to keep my stress levels at a minimum, but this fiber is what made everything come together. I went from nightmarish multiple BM's a day to once daily solid BM. So grateful that a product like this is readily available and for a relatively low price as well. Please don't change this, it's perfect as it is!

Using Tummy Fiber
I will not blow smoke at you about this Fiber product, the truth is from the bottom of my heart, and my ever-suffering gut is this is the very best fiber anyone could ever use for what people like myself have Colitis Inflammation. I just got this diagnosis after suffering for many years; I don't know why it took so long. I had colostomy surgery in Sept 2020, and I still had flare-ups that were so bad I ended up in the ER. Afterward, I ordered this Tummy Fiber, and I promise you I saw results right away; and after just a few days, my loud painful gut was finally calm again. My Stoma and I can't thank you enough. Life changer for my 88 year old Mom!
My mom is 88, about to be 89. She has struggled with gastro problems the last five years. Doctors helped a bit to begin with, but as her â€˜episodes, became more frequent and more severe, I decided to do some research. Excellent Fiber for IBS (no taste, odor, or grit)
I've taken fiber for years to help with my IBS but have been taking psyllium husk (I now know through reading Heather's information that psyllium may have been adding to my IBS troubles). I was worried this would be gritty, not taste good, or have an odor. I love this fiber! Absolutely no taste or odor! It dissolves in water completely (stir, wait a minute, stir again). I'm still gradually increasing my dose trying to reach the optimum for my needs- but it has helped already and I'm only on my 2nd week. I will be purchasing the travel packs as well as I don't want to be without this. Thank you for making these products to help with our IBS. Ps. Love the tins! A forever fan.

IBS-D Improvements in Just 24 hours
I have tried many things to help ease my IBS-D with very limited positive results, until I stumbled on this Acacia Senegal. I was skeptical based on my experience with other products but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised if not shocked to experience some noticeable relief within the first day, taking just 1/2 teaspoon twice daily. Now a few weeks into using Acacia, my symptoms are much better and I can finally feel a bit more confident leaving the house without worrying. While I imagine results vary for each individual, for me, the relief is real and was very fast; and 1 and 1/2 teaspoons daily seems to be all I need. I will definitely continue using Acacia Senegal and am thankful that I learned about it. If you have IBS-D I strongly recommend giving this a try. For those concerned about some reviewers saying they have trouble getting the powder to fully dissolve, I have discovered (sort of by accident as I got distracted by the kids one morning after the first stir) that stirring in the powder the first time and then letting it sit for more like 10 minutes, the Acacia is completely dissolved. I give it a quick second stir after the 10 minutes and there is no sign of any powder or gel like some others have described. Try it!
