The acacia Tummy Fiber has proven to be an essential daily regimen or my IBS.

Not for everybody
A very good product. High in soluble fiber. Did not cause gagging or reflux. It's great to put on food. It turns out that it worsened my bloating and pain. I must have sensitivity to acacia (also called gum Arabic.) Be aware of this.

I had tried this a few years ago and gave up because it wasn't working, but I don't think I gave it enough time to work. Hi David - I'm so sorry to hear this. It might help to know that there are two kinds of fiber, insoluble and soluble. Insoluble is a stimulant and can set off IBS symptoms, and if you have strictures it can cause intestinal blockages.

Soluble fiber won't do that - it can't. It's not a stimulant, it's a bowel motility regulator. It can't cause blockages, diarrhea, or constipation, but it also will not help you until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, 24/7, to regulate motility. In the meantime, everything else will keep impacting your gut and you will likely keep fluctuating day to day. The tummy fiber is 100% soluble fiber, it can't make anything worse, but it also will not help you with just the first dose or two, or first few days or two. For constipation, it likely won't help the first week or two either. This is because you are starting at a low dose that won't do anything at all, it is just to get your gut used to more fiber gradually. All fibers are indigestible, so you always want to increase fiber slowly and steadily,

Do not skip doses, do not jump your dose up and then down and then up and then down, do not skip days - none of this will work. This is a process, it can't be erratic, it takes some time and patience, and you have to follow the process consistently, day in and day out, or soluble fiber will not do what you want it to do.

You need to start with just ½ teaspoon twice daily and then gradually increase. Add an extra ½ teaspoon to just one of your doses, every 3-4 days. So add an extra ½ teaspoon to your morning dose, wait 3-4 days and then add an extra ½ teaspoon to your evening dose, wait 3-4 days and then increase your morning dose again, etc. You'll keep following that pattern and gradually work up to the dose your gut needs for normal motility. A rough average final dose for diarrhea is 1-3 Tablespoons per day total, for alternating diarrhea/constipation probably 2-3 Tablespoons per day total, and constipation a likely 3-5 Tablespoons per day total. That shows you the huge dose range, and also how far you will likely have to increase from the starting dose of just ½ teaspoon twice a day.

The fiber cannot make anything worse, but again, until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, it won't help you either, because it has to reach the point where it can control your bowel motility. You just will not have enough of it in your gut to affect you at all until you have worked your way far enough into the process.

I will tell you candidly it will probably take you a few months to work up to the dose you would need to resolve chronic constipation, and in the meantime you'll still have symptoms, and you may need to use laxatives if you're already doing that. You should see improvements kick in as you gradually get your dose up around 3 tablespoons per day total, and then you'd keep gradually increasing until you feel stable day and day out. You can't just jump to this dose though - fiber does not work that way. I wish it did! But you have to gradually get your gut used to more fiber, and then reach the point you need for motility regulation. Once you hit that you stay at whatever that dose is, morning and evening, as soluble fiber literally only works when it is physically present in your gut.

Must-have product even if you don't have IBS

I do not have IBS, I have a Histamine Intolerance, BUT, the Tummy Fiber has been a life changer for me..
I do not have IBS I have food allergies and a Histamine intolerance, which results in very serious complications for me, from ER visits, to severe reactions, epi pen and bendadryl.I try and control with diet, but my stomach issues are horrible, all of Heather's products have been a life saver: The Tummy Fiber has balanced my bowels, the Peppermint Tea and the Fennel is my go to. I am very cautious. Have been slow about accepting the foods and being sure I am eating correctly. I think I am doing better, after a few phone calls. Patience is a Virtue
I have to say that the first time I tried this, I gave up too soon. In desperation, I decided to try again. With patience, I'm on my way. I also have a lot more knowledge this time with soluble/insoluble. Working between that knowledge and acacia tummy fiber, I'm having better success. With both constipation and diarrhea, it's much more difficult, but stick with it. It probably has taken me longer in that I moved with my increases in the acacia much slower and put more time in between increases to see stabilization. One time, I even had problems after increasing and took a step back and decreased it back a little longer. Thus, patience!

So thrilled with this product!
I am 77 years old and have had bowel problems ever since I was young. Even Milk of Magnesia was causing severe cramping and not working too well. It takes a few weeks to get your amount right - I take 3 1/2 tsps in a full glass of water twice a day. Nausea and product didn't thicken with moisture

Product made me nauseated at 1/2 t. 2 X day. Also, I put 1/2 t. in 1 T. water, and it didn't thicken into gel. How can it work if it doesn't thicken? Thanks.

Hi Linda - The tummy fiber is 100% soluble fiber but it has almost no viscosity, so it will not thicken in a drink or in food. This is good, because there is no choking risk, and it will be undetectable in drinks and meals. Soluble fiber works by regulating motility of the bowel and regulating water content within the bowel. That is an action entirely independent on the solubility, and not related at all to viscosity. The fiber should not cause nausea, but you may want to add it to more water than just 1T if you are then drinking that glass. Or just sprinkle over moist foods you are eating. Please keep us posted.

Hi Eileen - if constipation has crept back up on you, gradually raise your tummy fiber dose by an extra ½ teaspoon to your morning or evening dose. Give that 3-4 days, and then add an extra ½ tsp to your other daily dose. Follow that process of a slow, steady increase until you reach the new dose your gut needs for constipation. It's not super uncommon that you could get stable, then something else comes along and disrupts your gut, and then you have to gradually increase a bit more to get stable again.

Heather's tummy fiber is miraculous for me... I've been sick for months and have had several tests. My digestion has stabilized

I I have noticed a increased in improvement in my IBS symptoms.

A Fantastic Product for IBS

Re Tummy fiber---too early to rate Nice book but have questions

Book is well written with much information. However, info seems to be directed mostly to diarrhea. Am confused to what really in important re constipation, i.e what foods should be avoided, can Tummy fiber be taken with prescript meds, can other fiber capsules being taken with Tummy fiber or at a later time?

Hi David - the book Eating for IBS is for global IBS symptoms, constipation as well as diarrhea. The dietary guidelines (soluble fiber foundation, careful with insoluble fiber, avoidance of GI trigger foods) are the same for both diarrhea and constipation, as they are meant to regulate bowel motility from either extreme.

You can take fiber capsules with the tummy fiber, at the same time or different times, just count both fibers towards your total dose in terms of grams. Hasn't helped me that much.

I've been using this fiber for a few months to give it a good try but I'm sorry to say it really hasn't help me that much. It does blow me up and gives me gas when taking the higher dose. But it's like everything else I've tried, nothing is consistent for me.

Hi Ronda - I'm so sorry to hear this. Please make sure that you started on the low dose of 1/2 teaspoon twice daily, and have increased that gradually. You want to add an extra 1/2 tsp of fiber to one of your daily doses, every 3 days or so. This gives you a slow, steady increase that should prevent any gas and bloating.

You'd continue the gradual dose increase until you reach the level that keeps your motility stable. That may end up at a tablespoon or two per day for diarrhea, or several tablespoons per day for constipation. If you resolve at a lower dose, you'd just stay there. It's a bit of a slow, steady process to reach the amount of soluble fiber you need in your bowel to keep IBS stable.

If you just can't use the fiber please do return at any time, for any reason, for a full refund. That is never a problem.

I have passed on your info to both my primary care and gynecologist!
I have been dealing with constipation since I was a child (I'm now in my mid fifties) and it was normal for me to go five days to a full week before going. Dr.'s said it was just my system—fruit, fiber, water, exercise, probiotics—nothing really worked. Unbelievably, I was never uncomfortable until I reached my forties where things started to change. I would have days when I'd be confined to home because it was my day to go— all day. I had a colonoscopy early on (and more since) to make sure everything was okay. And then if I traveled, it was a complete disaster throwing my system off. I'd live in fear of what breakfast would do to me—sending me into the bathroom. Always that uneasy feeling in my stomach. I'd take a bunch of Imodium to try to head it off and feel like I could walk around Europe, or go on a tour and be confined in a vehicle, without fearing the worst—but I always feared the worst. It was no way to live. I talked about it with my doctor, but not very seriously. I went through a Metamucil phase, which didn't work and only made me feel bad. Glycolax, the same. The doctor suggested a drug for constipation but I did not want to go that route. Somehow, I came upon Heather's site when I was Googling out of desperation- and finally, I have found something that actually works. It has been a month and I followed her directions of increasing by 1/2 teaspoon of the soluble fiber every three days. I went on a trip after the first week and brought everything with me— travel fiber packets, peppermint pills, and both teas. I also bought travel oatmeal. I'd get up in the morning and have the oatmeal in my hotel room and the fiber before starting my day. I'd have the fennel tea if my stomach felt off and/or the peppermint tea—and armed with all of this, I felt safe and in control. While traveling! There is no better feeling than that. As I've continued to gradually up my dosage, I have started to have normal bowel activity—as in, a poop a day. I never believed that would be possible. And when I say normal—I mean it feels normal. My stomach feels at peace. There is nothing sick about the process—no cramping or bloating. I feel like the fiber is curing my motility issues. At first, I was careful with what I ate, but now I am back to eating what I pretty much always have— because I don't feel I have IBS, per se, more like chronic constipation. I did cut out dairy as I feel it upsets me (but not eggs). I drink coffee. It is a challenge to drink enough water—that has always been an issue for me. I feel like i've finally found what I've been searching for—some miracle product that I never thought would have existed., that is natural and not a drug. Thank you, Heather, for making my life normal again.

Suggestion: I recently ordered a refill and at the time the representative mention cost savings on ordering 3 at a time. I was concerned about the shelf life and if I would use it before expiration. I didn't mention my concern and wish I had as when refill arrived I realized the expiration date was far enough out, that I should be able to utilize the 3 refills for a savings. Perhaps your representative should mention expiration dates along with savings of purchase of the 3 at one time. And your records of my purchases might also indicate a time line projection of usage.

I like this product very much. It has just about fixed most of the problems I had. It's a keeper!
After a serious six-week bout of "hemorrhoids" followed by a colonoscopy, I experienced a systemic breakdown, just as if I'd had my sphincter removed. I tried many fiber supplements, this is the most outstanding.

I've tried a number of things over the years to help with my IBS-D. I had tried psyllium husks and other fiber and it didn't help or even made things work. I've only been using this for two weeks, but so far it has been the most effective treatment I've ever tried, which has been fantastic. It's not a cure-all, but taking it after breakfast and before dinner every day has really helped prevent diarrhea.

Hi Jackie - I'm so sorry to hear this. Constipation often requires the high end of a soluble fiber supplement dose, which can be up to 5 tablespoons per day of the Tummy Fiber. But - you have to start at a low dose and increase gradually, so it can be a process of several weeks and in some cases a few months to reach the dose that resolves constipation. It is very different than using a laxative. Can you please give me dosage and timeframe details and I'll try to help?

I liked the product enough to order a 2nd batch but I had a fairly bad ibs incident the second day of taking new batch. I was good with 2 tsp twice a day but with new order had to increase to 1 tablespoon twice a day??
