Fantastic product!
I was on prescription medicine for my IBS for years, and got tired of the side effects, so I switched to herbal pills. It worked for a long time, but I got to the point where I was taking 17 herbal pills daily! I weaned myself off of all my medicine when I started Heather's Tummy Care Acacia Senegal, and am now ONLY taking the Acacia! I wake up feeling wonderful and am actually hungry! I'm not a breakfast eater due to the bloating and gas I used to have in the mornings, but for the first time in years, I'm eating breakfast again! I seem to do really well at the 1/2 teaspoon twice daily. I am learning to eat low fat, and healthy now, and healthy eating paired with the Acacia have me feeling my absolute best I've felt in years! Only thing that works
Before this I would take dose after dose of Pepto, hoping it would stop my flare-ups of IBS-D. It would only work for an hour or two, and was unpredictable. This actually stops it reliably and allows me to live without fear. Takes time to figure out how much to take and not to take too much(!). Have been a customer for 10 years or more. Can't live without this stuff.

Hello Smith - I'm so sorry hang in there, soluble fiber cannot cause or worsen diarrhea or constipation, or flip one to the other, but it also won't help you until there is enough of it in your gut 24/7 to regulate motility. In the meantime everything that is impacting your gut will keep impacting it. It's a process to work up your dose and you may still be on a very low end. Details:

There are two kinds of fiber, insoluble and soluble. Insoluble is a stimulant and can set off IBS symptoms, and if you have strictures it can cause intestinal blockages. The tummy fiber is pure soluble fiber so it won't do that - it can't. It's not a stimulant, it's a bowel motility regulator. It can't cause blockages, diarrhea, or constipation, but it also will not help you until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, 24/7, to regulate motility.

In the meantime, everything else will keep impacting your gut and you will likely keep fluctuating day to day. The tummy fiber is 100% soluble fiber, it can't make anything worse, but it also will not help you with just the first dose or two, or first few days or two. For constipation, it likely won't help the first week or two either. This is because you are starting at a low dose that won't do anything at all, it is just to get your gut used to more fiber gradually. All fibers are indigestible, so you always want to increase fiber slowly and steadily,

Do not skip doses, do not jump your dose up and then down and then up and then down, do not skip days - none of this will work. This is a process, it can't be erratic, it takes some time and patience, and you have to follow the process consistently, day in and day out, or soluble fiber will not do what you want it to do.

You need to start with just ½ teaspoon twice daily and then gradually increase. Add an extra ½ teaspoon to just one of your doses, every 3-4 days. So add an extra ½ teaspoon to your morning dose, wait 3-4 days and then add an extra ½ teaspoon to your evening dose, wait 3-4 days and then increase your morning dose again, etc. You'll keep following that pattern and gradually work up to the dose your gut needs for normal motility. A rough average final dose for diarrhea is 1-3 Tablespoons per day total, for alternating diarrhea/constipation probably 2-3 Tablespoons per day total, and constipation a likely 3-5 Tablespoons per day total. That shows you the huge dose range, and also how far you will likely have to increase from the starting dose of just ½ teaspoon twice a day.

The fiber cannot make anything worse, but again, until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, it won't help you either, because it has to reach the point where it can control your bowel motility. You just will not have enough of it in your gut to affect you at all until you have worked your way far enough into the process.

I will tell you candidly it will probably take you a few months to work up to the dose you would need to resolve chronic constipation, and in the meantime you'll still have symptoms, and you may need to use laxatives if you're already doing that. You should see improvements kick in as you gradually get your dose up around 3 tablespoons per day total, and then you'd keep gradually increasing until you feel stable day and day out. You can't just jump to this dose though - fiber does not work that way. I wish it did! But you have to gradually get your gut used to more fiber, and then reach the point you need for motility regulation. Once you hit that you stay at whatever that dose is, morning and evening, as soluble fiber literally only works when it is physically present in your gut.

I was experimenting between this and benefiber. I have mostly IBS-C. This product works a lot better than benefiber for me and seems more consistent for a BM. Costs a lot more, but works well. It does not dissolve as well in cold beverages, so I have to heat up my juice in microwave. I would like to know more, how and why this works better.

I Will Never Buy Acacia Senegal Fiber Elsewhere Again
I purchased another mfr brand of this fiber thru the major online retailer so many of use. I could tell right away it looked different as I put it into the can I had from Heather's. The other brand was gummy and bitter and I was constantly having stomach cramping and pain again which I did not have with Heather's!! I will never try to substitute Heather's high quality and dependable products with anyone else's. They are NOT the same! The only reason I didn't give it the highest rating for shipping is because they were backordered for a couple weeks but I can see why that might be. Maybe other people have figured out it's the best also.

It's my go to fiber supplement because it is effective. My only problem is that it is not easy to get it dissolve evenly in the amount that I use.
I use a tablespoon 3 times a day. 2 of those times it is included in a nutritional smoothie which is 8 oz. liquid. The powder tends to clump &/or stick to utensil used for mixing.

I finally am feeling some relief from diarrhea that had become a chronic problem.
With IBS and all my intolerances to foods it had become very troublesome to eat anything without gas, bloating and severe diarrhea. Hi Irma - I am so sorry to hear this. The tummy fiber should never make anything worse, it will help diarrhea and cramps, but it also is a process, and you have to gradually work up your dose to reach the amount your gut needs for normal motility.

There are two kinds of fiber, insoluble and soluble. Insoluble is a stimulant and can set off IBS symptoms, and if you have strictures it can cause intestinal blockages.

Soluble fiber won't do that - it can't. It's not a stimulant, it's a bowel motility regulator. It can't cause blockages, diarrhea, or constipation, but it also will not help you until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, 24/7, to regulate motility. In the meantime, everything else will keep impacting your gut and you will likely keep fluctuating day to day. The tummy fiber is 100% soluble fiber, it can't make anything worse, but it also will not help you with just the first dose or two, or first few days or two. For constipation, it likely won't help the first week or two either. This is because you are starting at a low dose that won't do anything at all, it is just to get your gut used to more fiber gradually. All fibers are indigestible, so you always want to increase fiber slowly and steadily,

Do not skip doses, do not jump your dose up and then down and then up and then down, do not skip days - none of this will work. This is a process, it can't be erratic, it takes some time and patience, and you have to follow the process consistently, day in and day out, or soluble fiber will not do what you want it to do.

You need to start with just ½ teaspoon twice daily and then gradually increase. Add an extra ½ teaspoon to just one of your doses, every 3-4 days. So add an extra ½ teaspoon to your morning dose, wait 3-4 days and then add an extra ½ teaspoon to your evening dose, wait 3-4 days and then increase your morning dose again, etc. You'll keep following that pattern and gradually work up to the dose your gut needs for normal motility. A rough average final dose for diarrhea is 1-3 Tablespoons per day total, for alternating diarrhea/constipation probably 2-3 Tablespoons per day total, and constipation a likely 3-5 Tablespoons per day total. That shows you the huge dose range, and also how far you will likely have to increase from the starting dose of just ½ teaspoon twice a day.

The fiber cannot make anything worse, but again, until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, it won't help you either, because it has to reach the point where it can control your bowel motility. You just will not have enough of it in your gut to affect you at all until you have worked your way far enough into the process.

If you are unhappy please do return anything, open or not, no time limits, for a full refund. That is never a problem.

I have been suffering from IBS for over 20 years and nothing has ever helped. The last few months 8t turned to being constipated daily and I was absolutely miserable. I also believe it contributed to the discovery of atrial flutter that I discovered I had a few weeks ago. It coincides with the flutter every time. So, getting the IBS under control has helped that as well. 8 am still in the process of getting the right side and 8 am very close, but I have had a bowel movement almost daily this last week. Hi Ann - I'm so sorry that you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree - also known as gum arabic. We have sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier since our company was founded. The gum arabic is collected in a similar way as maple syrup, although the gum is more of a solid than a liquid. This is how the pieces look when the gum is collected from the outside of the tree. Then, the gum is dissolved in water. Finally, it is filtered and heated for sterilization. Once that is all finished, the liquid is sprayed onto very large surfaces so that the water can evaporate. When the water evaporates, we are left with the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia. Every step is certified organic, including the orchards, the processing and our packaging. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, rather than a synthetic, highly processed product, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a list of tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

TIPS TO DISSOLVE TUMMY FIBER

1) It works best if the liquid temperature is cool or lukewarm, not very cold or boiling hot. Once dissolved, you can add any temp liquid you wish.

2) Add Tummy Fiber to an empty cup, mix it with just enough liquid to dissolve it (like you'd dissolve cornstarch), and then add the remaining liquid.

3) Stir with a fork instead of a spoon.

4) After stirring initially, let it sit for about 60 seconds, then stir again and any remaining lumps should dissolve.

5) Instead of adding a big spoonful all at once, sprinkle on moist foods while stirring.

6) A customer recently told us that he uses a hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

Doesn't dissolve well

Maybe I just received a bad batch? I've used this product before & the powder dissolved much better, but this time the powder is clumping and not dissolving much at all. I even let it â€œrestâ€� a few minutes per instructions & still there's several clumps that never dissolve. Disappointed with this go round.
