This product really helps me out with constipation.
I am disappointed with the shipping charge from the US to Canada. It ALWAYS exceeds the cost of the product. It is delivered by US post and then transferred to Canada Post. It should not be that expensive. I would like to see stores in the Toronto area that carry this product.

I'm so sorry that you're having difficulty getting the Tummy Fiber to dissolve. The Tummy Fiber is certified organic, all natural gum of the acacia tree – also known as gum arabic. We have sourced the exact same organic Acacia Senegal grade from the same supplier since our company was founded. The gum arabic is collected in a similar way as maple syrup, although the gum is more of a solid than a liquid. This is how the pieces look when the gum is collected from the outside of the tree. Then, the gum is dissolved in water. Finally, it is filtered and heated for sterilization. Once that is all finished, the liquid is sprayed onto very large surfaces so that the water can evaporate. When the water evaporates, we are left with the fine, white powder that is acacia fiber.

There are no chemicals used in processing the acacia. Every step is certified organic, including the orchards, the processing and our packaging. Because this is a natural gum with nothing added, rather than a synthetic, highly processed product, the grain size of the finished powder can vary from lot to lot, even within a single lot. Even though we have specs in place for the grain size to be consistent and the optimum granularity for dissolving easily in liquids, during the packaging process the conveying and vibrating activities can sometimes separate out larger grains of the gum. This can result in a handful of finished packages of Tummy Fiber that have larger or more irregular grain sizes, which can then take longer to dissolve in liquids.

I'm including a few more tips we've come up with over the years to help fully dissolve the acacia in liquids or moist foods.

1) Instead of adding a big spoonful all at once, sprinkle on moist foods while stirring.

2) A customer recently told us that he uses a hand held blender to mix up his Tummy Fiber in just a few seconds.

If you are still unable to use the Tummy Fiber and are at all unhappy, please let us know and we will replace or refund the product.

I apologize that you were unhappy with the speed of delivery. Generally, orders going outside of the United States take 5 to 7 business days. However, they can get caught up in customs on occasion, which will delay the shipping time. This problem is frustrating for us as well!

Didn't seem to work for me

This company offers great products and I'm happy there's a company out there that caters to people with IBS because we need all the help we can get! However, this product didn't work for me. I tried it for about a week at the lowest dose and it made me very nauseous and gave me a bad stomach ache. Once I stopped taking it I felt better in a day. I'm bummed because I was really hoping this would be the answer for me!

However, I would like to encourage you to try Heather's Tummy Fiber again because it does resolve both diarrhea and constipation. We recommend that you start with just 1/2 teaspoon, twice daily. If you were taking that small amount, it doesn't actually have any effect because it is such a small dose. It is purely just getting your system ready to start taking more soluble fiber. So, it is very unlikely that the tummy fiber caused you to feel nauseous, since that is not a side effect of acacia.

Again, you are welcome to return the tummy fiber for a refund if you do not wish to try taking it again.

Acacia Fiber has changed my life
Constipation runs in my family...along with having divaticulitas, fibro, lactose intolerance and also low iron now, changes to what I had been doing had to change. My brother and sister along with me would take the little red pills in hopes of keep going with you the pain/bleeding and uncomfortable bloating. But using the acacia liberally in food or drink has relieved all of those problems. Even after I had to start taking iron pills! For Heather's Tummy Fiber, we recommend that you start with 1/2 teaspoon, twice daily. Every 4 to 5 days, increase your dose by 1/2 teaspoon total until you reach 3 to 5 tablespoons daily to resolve constipation. It is important that you increase your dose gradually, so you don't overwhelm your gut with fiber.

In order to see the best results with the tummy fiber, it is very important to follow an IBS safe diet as well. Please be sure to eliminate any trigger foods from your diet. I am really pleased with the help this has given me for some problems with cramping.

IBS-C This Helps
I currently take 2 tablespoons a day, and I've noticed a great difference in the intensity and length of my attacks since beginning this tummy fiber. While it doesn't help me with regularity as much, it does help with spasms and I am sincerely and eternally grateful for that! Nothing has worked to stop the stomach spasms until I tried your fiber kit!
I was having difficulty regulating my bowels and nothing was working. I ordered your kit and as soon as I started the daily regimen, the stomach spasms stopped. I started having issues with irregularity a few months ago and thought I'd either have to buy over-the-counter stuff that would cause the opposite issue, or just deal with it and accept that this was my life. Using daily.
Hi Heather - The day I received the product I started with 1/2 tsp. with breakfast and evening meal. After 2 weeks that seemed too much as I had so much gas and diarrhea. I now take 1/2 to 3/4 tsp. with breakfast only and it is working out fine. No cramps or pain and stools are firming up. Certainly not as much gas. Thanks for your great products. This product has helped my IBS a lot.

Heathers Tummy Fiber is amazing!!!!
I am from the UK and found this via the web after years of UK doctors trying to find a workable remedy for me. This Tummy Fiber has literally changed my life. The fiber has reduced by symptoms immensely and even allowed been to be able to consume some foods that I was scared to eat in the past in case it triggered my IBS (of course still in moderation). Amazing for preventing IBS attacks - constipation, not so much

So this product has really saved my life in that it has almost completely made me stop having the excruciatingly painful IBS attacks. I still have them very rarely, but the pain is much, much, less. So for that I am grateful. However, I have worked my way up to 3 TBS a day(split evenly between morning and night), and it has still done absolutely nothing for my constipation. I don't think this product should be marketed as helping IBS-C because for one it takes months for it to start working(if at all), and also 5 TBS is a ridiculous amount to have to take daily of anything, especially since this product is so expensive. I really don't want to increase past these 3TBS because of those reasons. Another thing is I was recommenced to order from the Canadian supplier Norfolk Holistic Foods. They took even longer to deliver, delivered to the wrong address TWICE, and it was unprofessionally packaged. Why would you recommend me these people? Overall a good product, probably more suited to IBS-D sufferers. I hope a better product will be developed for IBS-C.

Resolving IBS-C does take some patience. I understand how difficult and frustrating it can be to wait for your symptoms to disappear, but the results are well worth it. We have quite a few customers who need to take 4 to 5 tablespoons of acacia to resolve their IBS-C. Although this might seem like a lot to take, it can really provide complete relief.

Acacia fiber is 100% organic and soluble. It is very gentle as well. Since it is a natural product and it is not a harsh laxative, it does take longer to work. However, there just isn't a quick fix for IBS-C, as much as we wish that we could find one.

I would like to apologize that you find our prices too expensive. We do everything that we can to try and keep prices as low as possible, which is not the easiest thing to do when we only source the highest grade raw materials and everything is also organic certified.

We do offer special discounts, promotions, and coupons to our regular customers via the newsletter. This happens at least several times a year and we are trying to move to having a special offer in every newsletter. I am sorry that you had a negative experience with one of our Canadian distributors. For this order, it looks like we received it Tuesday November 18, it shipped Wednesday November 19, and tracking shows it was delivered Saturday the 22nd. Priority mail is normally received within 2-5 days, so it was within that range. It would be great if we had even faster shipping options but that would mean express/overnight shipping, which is exorbitantly expensive.

Easy Way To Add Needed Soluble Fiber Daily
I love this stuff because it allows me to add it to anything I want to without the hassle of measuring. Here's my tip: get an old spice shaker (nothing pungent) and fill it with the Tummy Fiber. That way, you can easily add just a little to whatever you want. Make sure you build up your dosage to the two teaspoon level first and then you should be good to go worry free!

STARTING TO FEEL BETTER

I've just started taking the Tummy Fiber after having a couple of IBS attacks a week. My long bathroom sessions at work, plus the painful cramps, were affecting my productivity. I started taking half a teaspoon each morning and night, slowly increasing and am at 2 teaspoons twice a day. The frequency of attacks has decreased and they're not nearly as painful. This has been the only product that gave me a relief from my IBS symptoms. I have suffered from IBS-D since I was 15 yrs old and after multiple doctors appointments the only med. that helped me was Imodium (one tablet a day). Tired of taking a drug not knowing the potential side effects in the future I decided to find a natural alternative. A gluten-free, lactose-free diet was not enough. The Tummy Fiber Acacia Senegal canisters and rhe travel packs were delivered in a timely manner. The product itself, has done wonders for my IBS. It is a wonderful product!!! I've had severe IBS since I can remember (7 yrs old, now 70.). Constipation. Diarrhea. Painful bloating gas. I've tried every fiber supplement. After a few weeks of taking the acacia my skin started feeling like it was burning. Like I used a harsh cream. Also the inside of my mouth burned. I only used one half teaspoon twice a day in a full glass of water. When I discontinued the acacia the burning disappeared. I'm sure it has helped others but I am very sensitive to various things. This really works
I suffer from IBS-D. For many years, my symptoms were well-controlled by medication and careful eating. However, when I developed a serious side effect from the medication and had to discontinue, careful eating did not alone control my symptoms. Peppermint just made me sicker, so I was looking for something that might work. I decided to give the Tummy Fiber a try. The results have been mostly wonderful, though to be honest, I do still have an occasional flare. (Who doesn't, with IBS?) I find the travel sticks to be the most convenient, though not necessarily the most economical. I am stabilized at one packet a day. I find oatmeal the best thing in which to dissolve the fiber. One small complaint: It does have a tendency to form tiny clumps, more noticeable in liquids than in a thicker moist food. I recommend the Acacia Tummy Fiber.

Very effective against diarrhea
I had tried fiber supplement pills before many years ago and found it completely unhelpful, but the lowest dose of this (1/2 tsp BID) had an instant effect on reducing my diarrhea. Although I still have other symptoms, I haven't had an issue with loose stools since and haven't had to increase the dose so this supply will last me a LONG time. So pleased. I will say I do have issues getting it to dissolve completely in beverages no matter what I try, I often put it in soups or even condiments. But because it's tasteless not dissolving completely isn't a huge issue for me, I just end up with a small clump to swallow every now and then.

I have been very pleased with the Tummy Fiber so far. Customer service was excellent and it arrived very quickly. I have been using in for about three weeks, gradually increasing the amount I use daily - as indicated in the directions. Though my IBS-D is fairly mild, I can already tell a difference in that my episodes are less frequent and my stools are not as loose in general. It is easy to take and has been easy on my sensitive system. I would definitely recommend this product to other IBS-D sufferers. I used to use Benefiber, but am noticing much more symptom relief with the Tummy Fiber. So glad I found your site!

For the Tummy Fiber Acacia to work properly, it's crucial that you start with a low dose (1/2 teaspoon twice daily) and gradually increase to a dose high enough to resolve constipation (which may be 4-5 tablespoons a day). If you get gas or bloating, that means that you increased your dose too quickly. It can take several weeks to gradually increase up to the dose you'd likely need to resolve constipation, and unfortunately you can't rush this. Tummy Fiber is not a drug or a laxative so it won't work overnight.

I really feel for the constipation folks, since it takes some patience to start slowly, increase gradually, and eventually get your daily dose high enough to resolve symptoms. A lower dose can't worsen constipation, but it won't resolve it, either.

Having the fiber at least twice a day - and you can have it more often - is also key, as you want to keep your gut filled with soluble fiber at all times. That will help prevent cramping and spasms in the first place.

It's also helpful to review the Five Constipation Frustrations here http://www.helpforibs.com/news/newsletter/060705.html#askheather . If you've been using laxatives, click here http://www.helpforibs.com/news/newsletter/06/082206.html#askheather for information on transitioning off of them.

If you've been following these directions, then you may have a trigger food in your diet that is preventing the constipation from resolving. Please make sure you eliminate all dairy foods (including yogurt, milk and cheese), as well as any high fat foods, red meat, egg yolks, butter, solid chocolate, caffeine, carbonated beverages, and artificial sweeteners.

If you have eliminated all of these trigger foods and you are following the above directions for the acacia, then this could be a sign that you have an underlying issue other than IBS. There are a number of other conditions that mimic IBS symptoms, so it is important to be diagnosed by a doctor.

Otherwise, stress could be factor in your IBS flare ups as well. Try finding a relaxing activity, such as yoga or meditation. To resolve constipation, you should also drink plenty of fresh water and make exercise a part of your daily routine.

Love the convenience and ease of use!
I've been using Heather's Acacia Powder for years and it's wonderful--has helped me immensely! This was the first time I've used the travel packs. I loved being able to tear them open at the notch easily. They are very handy to throw in your bag/purse and then you're all set. My ONLY issue with them was they only hold 1 tsp of powder per tube. I take 2 TABLESPOONS of powder in the morning and 2 TABLESPOONS at supper. So for me I needed to use 6 tubes in the morning and 6 more for supper. I wish you could make these travel packs that would hold 1 tablespoon each for ppl like me who take a higher dose. (in addition to these 1 tsp tubes for those using a lesser amount) Then I would have only have to use 2 tubes each time instead of 6. Also, because I take such a high dose it was kinda expensive to use the travel tubes BUT the convenience it gave me by not having to drag along my big container of powder and my tablespoon and my knife to level it off was well worth the expense to me! I will definitely use these again next time I fly somewhere!
