The Tummy Fiber is a Lifesaver!
I discovered Heather's Tummy Care products while in the midst of my worst IBS-C flare-up. Hi Sandra - I'm so sorry to hear this. You are welcome to return anything at any time for any reason, so no worries.

I will tell you candidly you have not been using the fiber for a long enough period of time to have gradually increased your dose to what your gut needs to regulate motility. This is a process, and it can take some patience, which I know is easier said than done.

Soluble fiber is not a stimulant, it's a bowel motility regulator. It can't cause blockages, diarrhea, or constipation, but it also will not help you until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, 24/7, to regulate motility. In the meantime, everything else will keep impacting your gut and you will likely keep fluctuating day to day. The tummy fiber is 100% soluble fiber, it can't make anything worse, but it also will not help you with just the first dose or two, or first few days or two. For constipation, it likely won't help the first week or two either. This is because you are starting at a low dose that won't do anything at all, it is just to get your gut used to more fiber gradually. All fibers are indigestible, so you always want to increase fiber slowly and steadily,

Do not skip doses, do not jump your dose up and then down and then up and then down, do not skip days - none of this will work. This is a process, it can't be erratic, it takes some time and patience, and you have to follow the process consistently, day in and day out, or soluble fiber will not do what you want it to do.

You need to start with just ½ teaspoon twice daily and then gradually increase. Add an extra ½ teaspoon to just one of your doses, every 3-4 days. So add an extra ½ teaspoon to your morning dose, wait 3-4 days and then add an extra ½ teaspoon to your evening dose, wait 3-4 days and then increase your morning dose again, etc. You'll keep following that pattern and gradually work up to the dose your gut needs for normal motility. A rough average final dose for diarrhea is 1-3 Tablespoons per day total, for alternating diarrhea/constipation probably 2-3 Tablespoons per day total, and constipation a likely 3-5 Tablespoons per day total. That shows you the huge dose range, and also how far you will likely have to increase from the starting dose of just ½ teaspoon twice a day.

The fiber cannot make anything worse, but again, until you gradually work up to enough of it in your gut, it won't help you either, because it has to reach the point where it can control your bowel motility. You just will not have enough of it in your gut to affect you at all until you have worked your way far enough into the process.

I do not have IBS, I have a Histamine Intolerance, BUT, the Tummy Fiber has been a life changer for me..
I do not have IBS I have food allergies and a Histamine intolerance, which results in very serious complications for me, from ER visits, to severe reactions, epi pen and bendadryl.I try and control with diet, but my stomach issues are horrible, all of Heather's products have been a life saver: The Tummy Fiber has balanced my bowels, the Peppermint Tea and the Fennel is my go to. I am very cautious. Have been slow about accepting the foods and being sure I am eating correctly. I think I am doing better, after a few phone calls. that magic something for IBS
When you have IBS you look for that magic something that will not cause gas along with the uncomfortable blotting but reduce gas that may be present along with those nasty spasms. When my mother used to eat out she made sure there was no GMO (genetically modified organisms) in the food, I never knew what she was referring to. Acacia senegal is a natural (not synthetic) whole food 100% soluble fiber with a clinically proven prebiotic effect. Try it you'll liked it!

Hi Lynn - I'm so sorry you just had an attack. I hope you are feeling better soon. The tummy fiber is not meant to stop an attack. It is a preventative, and you have to start at a low dose twice daily, gradually increase, and keep slowly increasing until you reach the point where you are stable, and not having attacks. The fiber only works when there is enough of it in your gut to gently force normal motility, and that will prevent attacks from happening.

If you are suddenly hit hard and need immediate help, that's when you need to go to the peppermint tummy tea (for pain, spasms, cramps, urgency) or the fennel tummy tea (for bloating and gas). The teas work very quickly to calm your gut and stop symptoms. The fiber is a daily process and you have to gradually work up to a high enough dose to actively keep your gut calm and prevent symptoms, it is not something you can just take as needed in the midst of an attack as it unfortunately won't work that way. It won't hurt at all, but it won't work the way you are wanting it to.

Hi Mary - I'm so sorry for the delay. Most orders ship USPS Priority Mail, which takes 2-5 . Big box orders go Fedex Ground, which also takes 2-5 days. But I think that within that range most Fedex orders take 4-5 days, whereas almost all Priority orders take just 2 days. Where you are in the country doesn't seem to change the Priority times, whereas that really affects the Fedex delivery times.

Patience is a Virtue
I have to say that the first time I tried this, I gave up too soon. In desperation, I decided to try again. With patience, I'm on my way. I also have a lot more knowledge this time with soluble/insoluble. Working between that knowledge and acacia tummy fiber, I'm having better success. With both constipation and diarrhea, it's much more difficult, but stick with it. It probably has taken me longer in that I moved with my increases in the acacia much slower and put more time in between increases to see stabilization. One time, I even had problems after increasing and took a step back and decreased it back a little longer. Thus, patience!

So thrilled with this product!
I am 77 years old and have had bowel problems ever since I was young. Even Milk of Magnesia was causing severe cramping and not working too well. IT IS WORKING!
My IBS runs from severe diarrhea to constipation and I have despaired of being normal again. But this stuff is working. It is a slow process, building up to being able to take enough to alleviate symptoms, but I am up to a tablespoon a day and my constipation is sloooowly disappearing and I am comfortable again. I have had NO DIARRHEA since I began the regimen and NO CRAMPING! And I am back to successfully eating sourdough bread (my problem is not gluten even though I have been off it for 3+ years on the advice of my gastroenterologist). Even though initially the acacia and the increased soluable fiber bound me up even worse, I have been able to adjust my insoluble fiber intake to begin to return to normal.

Hi Linda - The tummy fiber is 100% soluble fiber but it has almost no viscosity, so it will not thicken in a drink or in food. This is good, because there is no choking risk, and it will be undetectable in drinks and meals. Soluble fiber works by regulating motility of the bowel and regulating water content within the bowel. That is an action entirely independent on the solubility, and not related at all to viscosity. The fiber should not cause nausea, but you may want to add it to more water than just 1T if you are then drinking that glass. Or just sprinkle over moist foods you are eating. Please keep us posted.

Hi Patricia - I am so sorry to hear this. The tummy fiber cannot cause constipation or diarrhea, or flip one to the other. Soluble fiber is just a motility regulator. It stabilizes contractions to prevent cramps and it normalizes peristalsis. But, it also won't do that job you need it to do until you have enough of it physically present in your gut, and you have to reach that dose gradually. In the meantime, triggers will continue to affect your gut and set off symptoms. Please continue to slowly, steadily increase your dose and you should see symptoms gradually resolve. The fiber can't make anything worse, but it also won't work until you get enough of it in your gut, and you have to work up to that dose.

Should not have stopped
I was ordering through Amazon and thought that I might be receiving a fake product so I stopped taking it. I had forgotten what life was like without my gluten-free fiber.What a nightmare. I still don't trust ordering through Amazon(as easy as it is) so I'm back to ordering through Heather's website. Since, It does go right into my tummy I'd rather be safe. Wouldn't you?

6 weeks on and definitely noticing change for the better
I have been using this product now for 6 weeks, I started on a low dose ( 1/4 teaspoon ) twice a day and have increased to 1 teaspoon twice a day, it has definitely helped me with urgency and diarrhea, I feel like it has a calming effect on my bowel. Like anything you need to slowly adapt and give it time.

Have not had to use Customer Service.
I have been living with IBS-D for over 40 years. Tried other fiber products that didn't work & were unpleasant tasting. A new GI doctor that I started seeing a few years ago suggested I try Heather's fiber & Tummy Tamers. These 2 products have helped me more than anything else that I have tried over the years. Fiber mixes in so well with liquids or foods like oatmeal, applesauce, or sprinkles on any type of food. Does not change taste or texture. Thank you for these wonderful products.

I can't take this product. It increased stomach cramping and diarrhea. I lowered dose to 1/4 teaspoon and still could not take. Any idea why?

Hi Rita - I'm so sorry to hear this. The fiber can't cause cramping or diarrhea, soluble fiber is only a motility regulator. But - you also have to have enough of it in your gut to work, and you have to get to that dose gradually. The normal ½ teaspoon twice daily starting dose won't do anything - it's just to get your gut used to more fiber. Then you gradually increase from there - adding an extra ½ tsp to one of your daily doses, every 3-4 days. Lower doses won't make things worse, but they also won't stop diarrhea or prevent other triggers from hitting your gut hard. An average daily dose for diarrhea typically ends up about 1-2 tablespoons per day. Please keep me posted!

Hi Eileen - if constipation has crept back up on you, gradually raise your tummy fiber dose by an extra ½ teaspoon to your morning or evening dose. Give that 3-4 days, and then add an extra ½ tsp to your other daily dose. Follow that process of a slow, steady increase until you reach the new dose your gut needs for constipation. It's not super uncommon that you could get stable, then something else comes along and disrupts your gut, and then you have to gradually increase a bit more to get stable again.

Overal it helps me.

Hi Chris - please make sure that you are slowly, steadily increasing your dose. Constipation can take the high end of the dose range - 3-5 tablespoons per day, total.
